Michael's Story
Life
I spent the last 24 years in the U.S. Border Patrol. 1987-96 in Yuma, AZ, 1996-99 as an academy instructor in Charleston, SC, and since 1999 a second tour in Yuma. I'm currently a supervisory agent (elgible for retirement any time I choose, but I'm still having fun on the job). I've been married to Patricia since 1990, and have two kids, Stephanie and Oscar. Stephanie is starting her second year at Arizona Western College. Oscar is an honors student and two-sport athlete at Cibola High (sophomore). He's a tackle on the football team (6-3, 225).
Since 1973 - I did a tour in the Marine Corps (1974-77), and a tour as a Marine reservist in the 80's.
I graduated from Fort Lewis College in 1980 with a B.A. in English. I hav...Expand for more
e an M.A. in education from NAU.
I worked various jobs over the years, including teaching - very briefly. I joined the Border Patrol in 1987 and never looked back - I have enjoyed every minute of it. I stay very active, lifting weights, running, and teaching defensive tactics to my fellow agents. At 55, I feel like I'm 25 - of course, having an 20 and 16 year old forces one to keep active. I coach my son's baseball teams and still find the time to referee HS and JH wrestling (never can stay completely away from the sport). I retired from the Border Patrol after 25 years of service (28 year government retirement counting my military time) on 11-30-2011. I entered into the teaching profession (middle school level) in Jan-2012.
