Michael's Story
I goofed off after high school, finally going to work at Hill-Behan Lumber (with Terrill Borne, Emerson Junot, Larry Autin and Herman Diket) for most of 1973. I hauled lumber and worked as a laborer. That encouraged me to go to UNO in Spring 1974 for 3 semesters. I hooked up with an Abramson '73 grad and almost got married. After that failed romance, I went back to UNO in Spring 1977 and hooked up with a Kennedy '74 grad. That romance failed also, but I finally finished UNO in Dec 1979 with a BA in Geography.
I got a "professional" job with Gulf Oil in 1980, but was bored with office work. I answered an ad for Greyhound in early 1981 and became a driver for 2 years! It was awesome but unstable. I drove a tour bus all over the US and parts of Canada in 1983 & 84. I fi...Expand for more
nally got serious with an insurance career, starting with a then little-known company named Progressive as a Claims Adjuster in Aug 1985. I got into Sales in 1987 and have been an account rep / territory sales manager and regional manager for Progressive, Kemper, and National General Insurance since.
I met my lovely wife Arabella in 1985. She was from Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We married in Honduras in 1989. We bought our home in Kenner in 1989. We have 2 boys - Michael, 26 & Stephen, 23. They both graduated from LSU. Tragically, my precious wife passed away from uterine cancer at age 51 on Feb 20, 2012. I pray for strength to carry on.
I hope to retire from insurance by 64. Then I can have more time to focus on the things I want to do in life, like traveling again!
