Michael's Story
Life
Born and raised in Oak cliff, I couldn't wait to move away. I hated school mainly because of my families financial status which made it hard in private school. I wasn't interested in the wild life and tended to be more intraverted...until college.
In college I pledged Kappa Alpha which helped me to open up and become more extroverted. Had I not pledged I would never had graduated after my mom passed away in 1997. Since dad was still in prison, I essentially became a ward of the state.
After graduation I met a girl and fell in love. We soon married and started a family. Together we have 2 children and live happily in Wylie TX.
I discovered that I was adopted in 1997 and have since found my birth mother who lived only 5 miles away from my childhood home. I have discovered that I have a brother and 2 sisters. It takes a little getting used to, but I wouldn't trade a moment.
School
I hated school. You couldn't pay me enough to endure the tortures of high school or middle school again.
In elementary school you develop friendships and you hope that those will last, but as you get older you realize that may not be possible.

uld ever live. I also had to deal with the fact that my father was in prison. In private school, that isn't cool.
Junior high was pure torture. Every kid goes through an ackward phase. My phase was 12-15. Being fat really hurt your chances at fitting in when you are white in an all hispanic school. The one girl who liked me for being funny was told to stay away or she wouldn't have any friends. Water-belly wasn't a nice nickname to have.
High school was a joke. All the kids I went to elementary school with were trying to live the fast life that I lived at 8-10. I was done partying but they were just starting. An outsider at 8 for smoking dope and drinking, and outsider at 15 for not smoking dope and drinking. Kinda funny, guess I was ahead of the curve.
College helped me to realize that I could be more than the family I came from and I took advantage of it. I may not be filthy rich, but at least I'm not filthy anymore. I have a nice house with a pool in a quiet suburb outside Dallas. I still work in the Oak Cliff area, so I see the old neighborhood all the time, but now I see it at 60 mph.
I have tried to stay in touch with a few old friends, but with no success. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
