Michael's Story

Life Things have gone well for me all these years. Sure life has thrown a few curves at me along the way, but whether academically, personally or professionally, I've managed to find my way through. College was all that I expected to be. Lucky anyone accepted my seriously deficient college application and more so that on the way out they gave me a degree. To sum it up, had a lot of fun, played some soccer, and established some long-life friendships. In my book that's pretty darn good. Professionally, many changes in terms of focus and companies but always prodding along. At the time of our 10-year reunion, I was just about finished my tenure in various strategic finance and corporate development roles. Parlayed that experience into several years of investment banking with several firms. After way too many flights, hours, take-out dinners, and midnight faxes and emails from analysts and associates (I hate Blackberrys), left to join a private equity firm. Thought the buy-out world was a bit dull, so I turned around and started my own consulting and advisory firm. After two years of life worse than my experience in investment banking I decided to jump on the hedge fund band wagon. Always enjoyed the stock market so it seemed like a natural fit. the personal front, married and have a wonderful little girl. My baby just started preschool (2005), so before you know it she'll be in college. One lucky part of the changes in my professional life was that after Noelle was born I was able to take 6 months off. Nowadays, still spend plenty of time with her and spoiling her, knowing that at some point in the future she's not going want to hang out with the old man. Still play soccer every week. Miss the South Bay, as now I live in San Francisco amongst the fog and rude cab and bus drivers. My parents still live in the same house I grew up in. My mom keeps asking me to clean up my room though I have not lived there since 1986. During my visits I always take time to drive by OGHS and reflect back on the memories from the that time period. Although I have not kept in touch with anyone, I still fondly remember many of you and times we shared. I enjoy reading the few bios and updates here on the site, and wished more would write and attach pictures. Look forward to our 20-year reunion next year, and re-establishing some old friendships. To quote a famous line from a movie released in 1986,... "Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." That Ferris Bueller guy sure was pretty wise looking back now all these years. Hope all is well.
