Michael Olivier's Story
Michael Olivier is the CEO of the Louisiana Committee of 100 for Economic Development, Inc. The Committee of 100 is a private sector non-profit business advocacy group intent on building coalitions and partnerships to bring business and economic development to Louisiana. The membership is comprised of the CEOs of leading private sector companies statewide as well as University Presidents in Louisiana.
Olivier served as Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development to Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco from 2004 to 2008. His appointment won praise from Louisiana business leaders and national and international leaders in the field of economic development, who have called him aggressive, experienced and knowledgeable. He won the American Economic Development Council's Distinguished Service Award in 1995, 1996 and 1997. He has been president of the Southern Economic Development Council and a ten year board member and officer of the American Economic Development Council to which he was named a Fellow Member and Honorary Life Member. Business Week named him Mississippi's Economic Developer of the Year in 1999, and in 2002, Southern Business and Development magazine named him one of the âÂÂTop 10 Economic Developers of the DecadeâÂÂ. In 2005 Olivier led Louisiana Economic Development to achieve the ISO 9001 certification and the IEDC Accredited Economic Development Organization designation, both âÂÂfirsts in the nationâ for a state economic development agency.
In 2006 and 2007, Olivier was named as âÂÂOne of the Top 10 in the U.S. to make a difference in Economic Developmentâ by Southern Business and Development magazine. His work lead Louisiana to be named âÂÂState of the Yearâ for the first time by Southern Business and Development magazine.

IEDC has recognized Olivier with its three highest awards:
1. Fellow Member (FM)
Fellow Member (FM) status is conferred upon active IEDC members who have attained unusual stature in the field of economic development and closely related disciplines. Unusual stature is defined as significant contributions to the profession through service to the Council and/or academic endeavors directly related to the practice of economic development.
2. Honorary Life Member (HLM)
Honorary Lifetime Member (HLM) status is conferred upon active or former members of IEDC who have furthered the profession of economic development and have been a teacher or inspiration on the part of the profession to others in many communities. Olivier was also named Honorary Life Member by the Southern Economic Development Council in 2003.
3. Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Economic Development
Recognized for lifelong commitment to excellence in economic development granted specifically to an individual who has demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession, leading the execution of projects that have significant impact on revitalizing communities, and playing a major role in shaping and improving the practice of economic development.
Olivier currently serves as Chairman of the Technology Advocacy Council for the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry and recently completed two years as the Chairman of the Louisiana Technology Council. He is a member of the Louisiana Innovation Council, a board member of the Louisiana Business Technology Center at LSU and a board member of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. He also serves as an advisory board member to Greystone CDE helping America to build "and rebuild" by providing financing and financial structuring support to community development projects. Greystone CDE has received allocations of New Markets Tax Credits from the CDFI Fund at the US Department of the Treasury.
