Michael's Story
Life
I was born and raised in Troy, NY as an only child; attending St. Francis de Sales from Kindergarden through 6th grade, when that school closed permanently. I then attended P.S. #14 for 7th & 8th grades; then on to Troy High, and later HVCC. I was employed by Price Chopper Supermarkets starting three months before high school graduation (except for six months when I tried my hand at convenience store management),retiring in 2014. I got married in May of 1988 and divorced in August of 1992. I've been in a relationship with a terrific lady since 1995. I have no kids; and it isn't likely now that I ever will. (sorry Mom & Dad-no grand kids for you).
College
I attended HVCC (well, sort of!) from August 1979 until December of 1980. Actually, I spent more time at the game room in the campus center, and at the bar down the street. Remember Aunt Mame's? There is a Taco Bell there now. I never actually went to the Country Grove (the G building) until my 3rd semester at HVCC. I'm still kicking ...Expand for more
my self in the ass for not completing college, but I sure had a lot of fun!
Workplace
I began my career with Price Chopper in March of 1979. I worked in the store that used to be in Troy Plaza until September of 1987. I managed a convenience store called SuperMart (in Rensselaer) from October 1987 until March of 1988; before returning to Price Chopper (in Hudson Valley Plaza) in April of 1988. That store closed in October of 2002, with a new Super Center opening within the same plaza. The grand opening was exciting, and the new store is nice, but I miss many of the people that I worked with in the other two stores. I have worked mostly as a cashier and back-up supervisor, but have experience in many other departments. I also had a part time job in the old Fays drug store (now Rite Aid) in the same plaza from April until November of 1991. I had about a year of bartending experience with Germania Hall in the early 1990's. That was probably my most fun job of all.. I officially retired in 2014.
