Michael's Story

Well, I was the guy with the right heart in the wrong place. I really wanted to fit in after my father retired to Alabama after forever in the Air Force, but never could seem to do really do it. Music got me through - oh, it wasn't that I was good, but it kept me out of trouble and gave me a place to hide, basically. Good times, and not-so-much, I have always looked back on my school years with great warmth. I got lucky a couple of times and made the right move twice in my life. Once when I moved to New York City and got myself on the "other side of the glass", as they say, and the other when I married Rose. No doubt I would have been dead or in prison had it not been for meeting her, there's just no question. Anyway, here goes the BS - it's true, but it's still BS. A thirty year veteran of the recording industry, I have two Grammy nominations (always a bridesmaid, right?), and am an active, voting member of the Recording Academy (NARAS), Los Angeles chapter. Among my credits are my twenty-three RIAA-certified Platinum records that adorn the walls of my home studio. I am an active member of the Recording Academy, Audio Engineering Society, Delta Chi, Phi Mu Alpha, and Musician's Union Local #47. I have mixed albums with producers including Quincy Jones, Dr. Dre, Jimmy Webb, Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Bob Rock, and the Neptunes. My engineering credits include an array of different genres, from jazz artists Foreplay, Ronny Jordan, and the Yellowjackets, to rockers Marilyn Manson, Metallica and Jon Bon Jovi, R&B artists Boyz II...Expand for more
Men, Brian McKnight, Mary J. Blige, and the Temptations, hip-hop artists Wu-Tang Clan, KRS-One, Eminem, and Jadakiss, and pop artists including Jessica Simpson, Justin Timberlake, Duncan Sheik, Semisonic, and Brandy. I have recorded and mixed in studios including New York's Hit Factory, Unique, Quad, and Sony, and Oceanway, Conway, Larabee, Pacifique, Westlake, and the Record Plant in Los Angeles. Go figure - talk about being in the right place at the right time - I was the poster child! I live a much quieter lifestyle these days. I retired from commercial music production to concentrate on becoming Joe Suburbs, getting out the city at stop living at the speed of light. Spent a number of years as the Director of Sessions at Full Sail University, and these days I travel to do consulting work and guest lectures at colleges across the country, The rest of the time I'm home or at the beach! I compose mostly on my beloved Yamaha grand piano, occasionally guitar, and still find time for trumpet and the Flugelhorn, my first love. I am a die-hard football fan, and my allegiance to the Florida State Seminoles is in direct conflict with Rose's Florida Gators. That makes Thanksgiving at our house is pretty interesting. I also enjoy flying, the ocean, and for some strange reason I am fascinated with the idea of time travel, and I love movies and books about the subject.
