Michael's Story
Life
Wow, my life in 4000 letters, don't know if it's possible but here goes . . . After 2 years at Maryknoll HS, I left Hawaii begrudgingly in the summer of '77, even got hit by a car to try and stop from leaving! Moved to Bremerton , WA, finishing school at East High after 1 year and attended Olympic CC - took every PE course they offered! Lived in WA until 1984, acquiring certification as a Massage Therapist during my last year there. Left behind a lot of good friends and many memories, but had to return to Hawaii! After 3 1/2 years back in the islands, I made the greatest decision of my life . . . I got clean & sober. If any of you remember my days in Bremerton and Hawaii, you understand what a miracle this was! I packed 40 years of abuse into 15. This past January, I celebrated 17 years of continuous sobriety. My life since then has been an ongoing journey of discovery. I've worked as a buffet cook, a truck driver, a traffic safety controller, a property manager, ran a pawn shop, helped make volcano documentaries, was assistant maitre 'd for a five-star restaurant, moved to Las Vegas to ta...Expand for more
ke care of my parents, taught massage therapy for 5 years, operated my own MT business for 4 years and am now a substance abuse counselor for an adolescent treatment facility and supervisor for a 56 client residential ranch in the Toiyabe Natl Forest, 30 miles outside of Vegas. Along the way I've traveled the Western US on the back of a motorcycle, sailed through the Channel Islands along the coast of Vancouver Island, attended numerous major sporting event championships with my younger brother, and most recently, became the uncle of two amazing twin boys. Haven't yet found the woman to share these adventures with, but not for lack of trying. I hope to move back to Hawaii eventually but NV is a great hub for traveling throughout the US, which I do constantly. I look back on where I have been and the people I've known and consider my self very lucky to have made it this far. I'm still fat and jolly and have somehow become anal retentive in my middle years! I would love to hear from any one who remembers me - good, bad, or indifferent - because I have good memories of all of you! Aloha - Michael
