Michael's Story

Life Award winning writer, producer, director, Michael Schlossman, believes that careers find us. So much the better for television audiences then, that filmmaking found him. A self-described “recovering lawyer”, Schlossman’s ability to deftly represent real people in complex and often difficult situations is a product of his desire to make films that resonate with audiences, both thematically and creatively. Passionate about grounding his work in reality, Schlossman’s latest effort, “The Wrong Man? A Mother’s Cry” premiered on Court TV in April. Part of Court TV’s continuing “Wrong Man” series, the show investigates the 1991 murder of then 6-year old Taylor Fargason who’s mother, Teresa, was ultimately arrested and convicted for the crime. But Schlossman, along with two former NYPD homicide detectives, say that the cops got the wrong person and think they know who the real killer is. For his efforts, Schlossman not only received a prestigious Telly Award but was also successful in soliciting the aid of the venerable Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law whose lawyers have agreed to take on the case, basing their appeal on the evidence that Schlossman and his team of investigators uncovered. Last year, Schlossman revealed an impressive stylistic flair with the heart wrenching “Missing: Prisoner of Iraq” which was Discovery Channel’s SPOTLIGHT show for April 2003 and later honored with a CINE Golden Eagle and Telly Award. The hour long special delves deep into the mystery surrounding the fate of US Navy pilot, Michael Scott Speicher, who was secretly held as a POW by Saddam Hussein after being shot down over Iraq on the first night of the 1991 Persian Gulf War. To this day, Speicher’s whereab...Expand for more
outs remain unknown. In addition to a tradition of cooperation with the Pentagon and law enforcement agencies (including specials focusing on the US Air Force Pararescuemen, the USAF Thunderbirds and the US Border Patrol) Schlossman has also produced work in genres ranging from fashion and pop culture to science and natural history for clients including Discovery Channel, SHOWTIME, Bravo, Hearst Entertainment, TLC, Channel 4 (UK) and National Geographic Channels International. Currently, Schlossman is in development on a movie based upon the wrongful incarceration of Teresa Fargason. In addition, he is also in production on “Mega-Carrier,” a reality series for TLC centered on the engineers, technicians, welders, carpenters and craftsman who have been brought together to build the world’s newest and most technologically sophisticated aircraft carrier - a 6-year process that will ultimately propel a mountain of steel into a marvel of mankind. Prior to starting his own company, Schlossman was Vice President and Executive Producer at Image Group Entertainment, where he was in charge of a multimillion dollar annual operating budget for both film and television. Armed with a J.D. from New York Law School as well as a B.A. from The George Washington University, Schlossman’s entertainment career began as an intern in the NBC Legal Department. After that, he became Associate Counsel at the state-owned French bank, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations where he specialized in international corporate and financial law. In his spare time, Schlossman is a political junkie. He was a candidate for the New York City Council in 1993 and served as campaign manager on U.S. Congressional races in 1992 and 1994. Schlossman currently lives in Los Angeles.
