Michael P.'s Story
Lyric baritone Michael P. Schmidt heralded by the Minneapolis Star Tribune as having a voice with ¿an unusual vocal beauty¿ has been privileged enough to perform with many of the finest opera companies and orchestras in North and South America and Europe. Most recently, Mr. Schmidt was featured as the baritone soloist in Beethoven¿s 9th symphony with the Bel Canto Symphony and Chorus of Milwaukee where the critics acclaimed his performance as ¿strong and well crafted.¿ Other recent performances include the role of Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutte with the Lyric Opera Cleveland, Danilo in The Merry Widow with The Western Plains Opera, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Teresa Careño, Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus with the Pine Mountain Music Festival, and Melchior in Amahl & The Night Visitors with Milwaukee Opera Theater among others. projects include singing roles like John Brook in Little Women, Belcore in L¿elixir D¿amore, Morales in Carmen, and Horace Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe, as well as concert appearances singing works like Brahms¿ Requiem, Mendelssohn¿s Elijah, and Haydn¿s Creation. The Voices of Vienna competition winner for 2005, Mr. Schmidt traveled to Austria during the summer where he studied with some of Europe¿s finest master teachers and coaches in Vienna and Salzburg. From 2000 - 2007, Mike was the National Anthem Singer for the NHL Hockey Team the Minnesota Wild. He currently resides in Minneapolis and is enjoying a career with Wells Fargo while still pursuing his musical interests of singing and playing woodwinds with such groups as the Minnesota Chorale, The Minnesota Freedom Band, the Minnesota Philharmonic, and the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus.
