Michael's Story
After HS....
Graduated David Lipscomb University 1984 and Wright State School of Med 1987. Trained in Internal medicine in my present home of Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach but never spent a day of my life practicing it. Did full time Emergency Med first in Whiteville, NC where I met my wife, Nancy (first and only Mrs Varney) then in Greensboro starting in 1994. Retired from ED work shortly after the birth of daughter, Sarah, to be fulltime parent--the best, funnest job in world. Now work at a "doc-in-the-box" (urgent care, "Medac")about 12 days a month.
Still get back to Middletucky regularly since my folks still live in the house I grew up in and they are too infirmed to travel to come see the...Expand for more

Just built a big workshop (I'm my neighbors' favorite person right now)to accommodate all the woodworking equipment that my master-craftsman father is giving to me. Not that it does me any good now....We moved inland to Whiteville as the ladies of the house hated Wilmington and wanted to live around family and friends. Now we live on Land o Lakes Golf Course wayyyyy out in the stix. I wasn't sold on the deal, but I have to admit the country life is definitely for me. But driving 55 miles back to Wrightsville Beach to work is PIA.
Still a wise-acre, but don't tread on people's sensitivies like I did in HS.
