Michael's Story
Michael passed away on Dec 21, 2007. He was fighting a brain tumor at the time of his death.
You can read his story on caringbridge dot org.
The site is michaelwoo and the pw is welikemike.
There you can sign the guest book and tell us how you knew Michael.
He had full function for the past year, went thru a lot of radiation and chemo treatments and it was under control until October. That visit (to UCLA) we saw the tumor had come back. It was in the brainstem.
On November 13, he experienced lost of some function on his right side. This degradation kept getting gradually worse as the month went on. He at first could walk with at cane, then a walker, and then not without help.
From Nov 13 to Dec 21 it was loss of more function on his right side, ever so gradually over time.
His family was at his bedside when he was taken by God to a better place. He suffered no pain.
He wanted to LIVE and fought the cancer hard. He never complained. He just endured. proudly. He was 32.
Stan, his stepdad for 20 yrs was his primary caregiver during his time at home.

Obituary:
Michael Lim-Joe Woo
May 26, 1975 ¿ December 21, 2007
Michael was born in Los Angeles, California. He moved with his parents to Anaheim, California when he was very young, and attended Clara Barton elementary and Ball Jr High in Anaheim. He then moved to Cypress in 1990 and graduated from Cypress High in 1993. He was always learning, and while he was in high school, worked for Bank of America as a teller, among other jobs.
From 1993 until 1997, he attended UCLA and majored in Electrical Engineering. During two of his summer breaks, he was selected to be an intern at INTEL Corp. in Northern Calif...Expand for more
ornia. While working towards his Master¿s Degree, he received a grant to work for one of the UCLA¿s Electrical Engineering research labs. After UCLA, Michael joined his friends in a startup company called PhatNoise.
In his 7 years at PhatNoise, which would eventually be acquired by Harman Consumer Group/JBL, Michael was instrumental in developing the first PhatBox, reverse-engineering the audio protocol and implementing it on reprogrammable hardware he helped to develop. He co-wrote several published academic papers, and his name is on several PhatNoise patents. He also programmed a DSP amplifier that would adapt itself to different audio conditions.
In August of 2006, he began having eye problems, and had his eyes checked. His right, lower quadrant of peripheral vision was non-existent and he next was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. After surgery to discover the type of tumor, he endured radiation and chemotherapy successfully until November 2007. At that time, his tumor had become resistant to the chemo drugs, and began growing again, but rapidly.
Michael fought the affects of the brainstem cancer with all his might, and even though functionality of his body was deteriorating, he never complained. He endured bravely, and continued doing what he enjoyed, namely watching Law and Order, cheering on UCLA sports, and doing email on his computer, keeping in touch with his friends. He stayed strong right up until the day he passed into God¿s hands.
He is survived by his parents, Frances and Stan Slaven of Cypress, CA and Richard and Sharon Woo of Los Banos, CA; his sister Lisa Vuletic, her husband Ryan and their children Cate and Justin of Brentwood, CA; his brother Kevin and Kevin¿s fiancé Jeannie Kim of Cypress, CA; his step-brother, Sean Slaven of Buena Park, CA; his grandmother Esther Lau of Los Angeles, CA and a host of extended family and friends.
