Michael's Story
Life
Traveling is what I like to do the most. I joined the US Navy after graduating from high school in 1969. I saw alot of the world during my 22 years there. After retiring from the US Navy in 1991 I moved to Tampico, Mexico, and lived there for a short while then moved to Brownsville, Texas.
While in Brownsville I worked as a Machinist Leadman at Amfel's Inc., a shipyard at the port there. In 1998 I started work at Titan Tire Corp. of Texas a manufacturer of agriculture and recreational vehicle tires. In 2002 the factory closed its doors.
In Feb 2005 I moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I got married in June to Nguyen Minh Nhat, and currently am employed with Rubimex Corp. as an English Instructor and production supervisior.
In January 2006 we purchased a large (2100 sq ft) home on the edge of Ho Chi Minh City ( in the Cu Chi District ), and now I am beginning a new car...Expand for more
eer as a farmer. I also help university students with their English lessons, while my wife teaches English to middle school children in our home.
2010 UPDATE:
Still living the good life here in Vietnam. Still raising pigs to sell at the market, but now something new. Last year we got our second Chihuahua and it wasn't long before she had puppies. Now we have four (2 males 2 females) and are beginning to be breeders. Chihauhaus are a good dog here because most homes in the city center are small with little or no area outside.
No longer working at Rubimex, but still helping university students. Plus I decided to go back to school to learn more Vietnamese. If I am going to stay here I want to be fluent in my languages.
Doing a lot of traveling throughout the area. It is nothing for my wife and I to get on the motorbike and drive 300km (186 Miles) a day.
