Michael's Story
After graduating from Saguaro in 1969, I studied Electrical Engineering at Arizona State. I graduated with a BEE in December 1973 (yes, I took an additional semester) and went to work for Motorola in Scottsdale in 1974. Married Mary Holguin (a 1971 Coronado High grad and ASU grad) in 1979. Got a Masters in EE in 1980 from ASU. Worked at Motorola until 2002 when me and 300 others in that group were all laid off at once in 2002. ...Expand for more
However, I was able to go right back to work a few weeks later at General Dynamics (which in 2001 had bought a large portion of the business at the Motorola plant I worked at) since I had experience (and clearances) for some of the work there. Worked at GD until retiring in 2008 to care for my wife whose health declined rapidly after kidney trouble the year before. Continued caring for her until she passed away last year (2016).
