Michele's Story

Life How do you some up 25 years in such a short space! And so few characters! I think I'm right where I want to be at at this point and time in my life. I have a good business and it's on the grow again. I've studied languages, history and learned that I enjoy visiting the Southern states. This winter I finally had the opportunity to learn 2 things that I thought would be easy enough but challenging all the same. So just before Lent I learned how to knit (which my Grandma & mother tried to teach me unsuccessfully) and now know how. I'm not that good but at least I learned to knit. The other skill I learned was lap/hand quilting. I enjoyed it and now would like to make a quilt for myself. My many "nieces" keep me busy making afghans. And I would like to make a quilt (rather than an afghan) for myself. A project to do before heading back to university. Education has been and continues to be very important to me. I went to university wanting to enter into the Faculty of Education only to discover that my study skills were somewhat rusty. And worked on my BA to "unrust" those study habits. This will be my third degree (one at Red River, one at U of W and this one will again be at U of W). Time will tell if I get an opportuntity to return to school. Finances & time are tight; giving up the business to return to classes is not an option as I will need to have a roof over my head and food to survive. So night school here I come!!! But first to save beyond the "3 month" backup. I just wish Grandma was here to see me now... ...Expand for more
She was my supporter in more ways than anyone would ever know. She'd be more than proud... if that's possible. So I've not travelled far like I wanted to but I have travelled. I did get to University. I returned to the church and have been extremly active on the board/council of my congregation. This may be my last Conference with the Church as our local congregational life hangs in the balance. It'll be strange not to have to travel every summer. Now you know how I got to ThunderBay last summer and why I was at Concord College. Sure glad I went. Winnipeg (CMU campus this year) will be interesting to say the least. Next year was to be my official last year which may still be but I doubt it. I may then be able to continue my goals and finish off that degree. But for now I will continue to live and work in the Winnipeg. I have made one discovery that was wonderful to learn... my dad is a great travel companion. He's from an almost gone town in Southern Manitoba. For the past 2 years now he & I make sure to take at least 2 trips each season to visit family & friends. Mum can't go with us as she is in poor shape. My taking Dad is a much needed break and fun too. I have become much closer to Dad than I ever thought possible. It's a nice kind of feeling. And nice to know that all it took was a "yes, I'd love to go to a rock concert with you, Dad". He never complained that the music was to loud either! So that's a glimsp into my past 25 years. Nothing too exiciting but nothing too bad either. But more than "just" okay.
