Michelle's Story
Life
Currently, I am living and teaching in Erie, PA. I care for up to 15 preschoolers age 3-5. My days are spent getting messy, singing and playing games. I really enjoy knowing that I make a big impact on their lives.
One night a week I attend dance class. I've always wanted to learn ballet. I also participate in the studio's annual review at the Warner Theatre. It's a lot of fun!
School
It seems so long ago since I graduated college, of course high school. But learning is always really important. Even though I'm not attending a structured school I am driven to learn a new career. Since I have been working part time as a pharmacy technician I have decided to pursue my certification in that field. I am in the process of studying for the test to get my certification.
Being a member of Wildfire is my best memory of high school. I enjoyed dancing and travelling to different schools to watch other teams compete. I learned a lot about teamwork!
Workplace
During high school and college I didn't work very much. I did have t...Expand for more
he experience of serving BLT's at one of Kent State's cafeterias.
And for three summers between college I worked at a toy factory.
Finally I had the experience of working at the Child Care Center at home and realized I loved being with kids.
My first year in Erie I worked at an Athletic Club's child care center and helped transform a day care room into an exciting learning environment. I learned a lot from the first teacher I worked with there about teaching preschool and have stuck with it since.
For about 10 years I have been working in child care settings as a Preschool teacher and each center I have taught in has been unique.
Before Hurricane Katrina devistated the gulf coast I had the opportunity to live in Mississippi. I taught in a whole different social setting than that of Conneaut. It was a life altering experience to learn the traditions of the south and teach pre-k there, too.
Now I have returned North to Erie once again, and now work at a very charming small child care center and doing the best job I could ever choose.
