Michelle's Story

Life HELLO.......Well, I lived in Racine for a few years then back to 'The Grove' to stay! I am married to Mike Pelletier, he's a First Class Petty Officer in the Navy and from Ohio. We met when he was active at Great Lakes Naval Base in 1997. We have a son JohnTaylor (JT) who is 10, 4th grade at Yorkville. I have 2 girls, Ryannon, who is a Freshman at UW Milwaukee, Peck School of Arts, and Morgan, who is in 7th at Yorkville. I also have a step-son, Mike's son Brendan, who is 12, and lives in Texas. I don't believe that there is a man alive who could be a better father! Morgan was 2 and Ryannon was 8 when we were married, and Mike "stepped up" to the fatherhood role like a natural! He has been there for all the illnesses, cuts, scrapes or bad dreams. Mike has created and shared all the happy times a childhood holds for my girls (his girls) & our son. He has NEVER hesitated for a single moment to leave work, military drill weekends, or drop whatever to rush to the girls in sikness, injury, surgery or hospitalization! I married a man sent to me by God himself, to give me the marriage that was finally meant to be. He walked Morgan across the stage at the National American Miss Pagent SO pround of the young woman she's becoming. He cheered the loudest as Ryannon and her team at UGHS won State in softball. Mike hasn't missed, for any child, a softball or basketball game nor ball, track, or horse practice since day one. He has attended EVERY school function, conference, and has always volunteered at a drop of a hat. Mike has given me, and the kids, the beautiful gift of knowing the true meaning of uncondotional love, for all. We have quite the blended family...and I wouldn't have it ANY other way! I completed my 2yr apprenticeship in Barber/Cosmetology in 1994, and graduated from Gateway Technical College. I worked as a stylist for a few years. Then, in '96, I took a barbering position at Great Lakes Naval Base. Quite a bit differet "barbering" opposed to "styling", but I loved it! I opened my own business, "GL Train Station Barber Shop" Oct '98. I ran that shop til Dec '03. I opened a larger shop, "Schelley's On Sheridan" at a new location in Jan '04. In late '05...for the FIRST TIME in my lfe...I became a stay-home-mom! My husband was called to duty in Iraq. It was then, on December 31, 2005, that Mike & I renewed our vows in a BEAUTIFUL ceremony performed by his father, a minister of his family's church in Ohio. He had only gone on relatively safe deployments in the past, we have been on "stand-down" a few times since 9-11, and continue to be ready and prepared for "the call". And it did come. He deployed January 15th, 2006 for Iraq . So... I closed my bussiness, and in the midst of the scariest and most worris...Expand for more
ome time of our lives...I completely enjoyed being fully available to my family. I stayed home til Oct 2006, when Mike returned from Iraq. I miss cutting hair too much to give it up for good. I now work at John's Barber Shop right here in Union Grove and enjoy mini reunions as I reconnect with alumni regularily! Mike is still Navy Reserves, so, we are very military active. If you would, please, say a prayer for ALL the men a women fighting for us? Two of my 3 brothers are also military. Troy is Army Ranger/Special Forces, 21 years. Danny is Marine Weapons Trainer, 16 years. They have both seen Iraq, Saudi, Desert Storm, Panama, Afghanistan, etc. It's tough when they are deployed, but Thank God, they've always come home safely. I've still enjoyed softball through out the years. I played on a women's league for 7 years, and a friend and I sponsored a co-ed team for 3 years. Everyone in our family plays ball, coaches or umpires, so it's 7-days-a-week during the summer for us. Mike and I coached "coach-pitch" for 3 years, then moved up to girls fast-pitch softball 4-5 years ago as Morgan & Ryannon moved up. Mike also coaches our son's baseball. We've been in 4-H for years now. I am the Horse Project Leader and have been the General Club Treasurer. Morgan is a Jr Leader and Club Secretary. We've run the UGHS girls softball concession stand for the past 3 years and completly enjoyed every moment of sharing those moments back at UGHS!! We're sad to go since Ry graduated, but we'll be back in a few years when Morgan, then JT attend. We have 2 horses in which Morgan shows at fair. We're fairly new "horse parent" so we will slowly widen our horizons in shows and fairs in future years. But so far, Morgan has proven to be a natural working with them and riding. We have great hopes for her. I am a Breast Cancer Awareness advocate. I've participate in the 3 day/60 mile walk each year since 2002. Recently created a Relay For Life team when my siter-in-law tragically & suddenly passed from a rare form of Leukemia at the age of 34. I make jewlery, hats, bags, t-shirts, etc to raise money for the cause and for my walk pledges & donations. I host an annual softball tournament fundraiser, have a booth at Racine Co fair, school craft sales, and personal fundraisers for ANYONE who is in need. We have been members of St. Robert Belermine Church for years and very active in All Saints Youth program. Both girls and I continue to enjoy yearly Mission trips to various states to help those impoverished and in need. JT can't wait to be old enough to go! I've also provided daycare during Religeous Education Classes. Well.....I think that's about it! I hope to hear from some old friends and possibly new ones. Take care! Michelle
