Michelle's Story
Life
I met my husband at a Karaoke bar in my hometown. He performed on stage, and, somehow, got up the courage to ask me to dance. I turned him down the first time because I don't dance to fast songs--I embarrass myself too easily. After he asked, I watched to see where he was sitting and kept looking over at him. He came over and asked me to dance to a slow song and then spent the rest of the night at my table with me.
I had my son out of wedlock and became a single parent, my first daughter was born with my first husband but that marriage was over before she came along. They are both in southern states with their fathers and I haven't seen them or talked to them since they were two years old each. My son is 17 and my first daughter is 15. I had another daughter with my current husband on November 7, 2002. She was born by cesarean section at 12:22pm and weighed 7 lbs, 7 oz. My husband and I believe that 7 will be her lucky number.
My Job
I have been working full-time as a bookkeeper in a western supplies retail store. I've been here since June 4, 2006. My small business will be closed down at the end of this year because it has not been successful.
School
One week after graduation from high school, I moved up to Brainerd, Minnesota with my father and step-mom. My father got ...Expand for more
me my first post-high-school job at the same resort he worked at. I lived on site at the resort during the season, after the season had ended, I moved back with them. My father soon ran off with my step-mom's best friend. I stayed with my step-mom while my little brother went with my father.
I worked several part-time or short-term jobs for two years before enlisting in the Navy. After my enlistment ended, I moved back to Brainerd, where I have lived ever since.
I didn't have a social life in school. If I could turn back time, I would go back to the summer before I started seventh grade and start over. There are a few things I would like to change about my life. Maybe if I had done those things differently, I would have had a social life in high school and had a better post-high-school life.
Military
I wish that I could have marked two answers for the third question. I enjoyed my time in the military but I wish my recruiter hadn't withheld information from me. He told me that my ASVAB scores were so high that I could have any job I wanted, the only problem was, he didn't tell me that the job I wanted existed. As a result, I didn't complete the school he sent me to and, if I had known the school I wanted to go to existed, I probably would have made a career out of military service.
