Michelle's Story

Life I was born in Honolulu, HI at the Tripler Army Hospital. In 1982, we moved to San Diego, CA where I started school at Lauderbach Elementary School. In 1984, my mother gave birth to my younger brother, Jesse Jr. In 1986, and halfway through kindergarten, we moved to Schwaebish Gmund, Germany. My youngest sister, Valerie, was born in 1988. I remember that I loved to go to all the German candy stores and the park with my older sister, June Dee Dee. I also remember the guy who killed himself in the woods behind my school...such great memories! In 1989, we flew back to the States and landed in Columbus, OH. We then took our little gray minivan on a jaunt across the US, visiting various friends and relatives on the way to California. Our final destination was Ft. Ord, California. I loved living there. Monterey is such a beautiful place... In 1995, we moved to Waynesville, MO. I absolutely hated it! It had absolutely nothing for a teenager to do. I took Tae Kwon Do just to keep out of trouble... In 1996, we moved to Seoul, Korea where I finished up my high school years. I earned my black belt in Hap Ki Do. I loved going shopping and eating Korean food. I made great friends that I wish I could have kept in touch with... In 1998, I moved to Buffalo, NY and attended college at Canisius College. I was in ROTC, various clubs and had a job, so I was always very busy. I had a great time with my friends, but I wish that I had taken a little more time to go out and party! In 2000, my parents divorced. My mother moved to Missouri and my dad eventually moved to Indianpolis. My dad remarried in 2002 (I think). Oh, yeah...In October of 2001, Tom and I got engaged. We started planning our wedding for July 2005... In 2002, I graduated from Canisius and was commissioned as a 2LT in the Army. I spent one month as cadre fo...Expand for more
r Canisius, but then went Ft. Lewis to serve as a NALC TAC (I know some of you are going, serve as a...huh?!). After a month and a half at the NALC, I went to the Chemical OBC at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. There, I also made very good friends that I wish I could see more often. After OBC, I was stationed in Kitzingen, Germany with the 12th Chemical Company. Wow! What a great experience! I met so many great people! And the food! And the traveling opportunities! Unfortunately, the traveling opportunities expanded to Turkey and Iraq. Due to the pending deployments, Tom and I decided to postpone the "big" wedding and decided to have a legal wedding before I deployed. So, on 26Dec03, Tom and I tied the knot at DisneyWorld. It wasn't big, but we had our family with us and I felt like a fairytale princess! In February of 2004, we deployed to Iraq where we (mine and two other platoons) were attached to the 1-33 Field Artillery Battalian. Again, I met great people and learned a lot from the 1-33FA leadership. I will never forget the people, the friendships and the memories! In February 2005, I became a big sister again! My father and stepmother gave birth to my brother, Richard. Yup! My father had a son and 20 days later he turned 50! Ha ha! After redeploying from Iraq, I was promoted to Captain and took the S1 position at the DISCOM for 1ID. Once again (I'm beginning to sound repetitive), I met great people and learned a lot. Though I was sad to leave Germany, I had to return to the States... And so here I am, back in Buffalo, NY. I'm glad to living in the same country as my husband, but...I sure do miss Germany! I graduated from the NY Institute of Massage in January. We finally had our "real" wedding on July 5, 2008. I currently work as an Independent Contractor doing massage at ADIO Acupuncture & Wellness Center.
