Mickey Lee's Story

Life My Spouse I met my husband on December 19, 1959 and our very first date was New Year's Eve December 31, 1959. We were married 3 years later, on New Year's Eve December 31, 1962. I didn't want him to ever forget our anniversary date. }:o) This past New Year's Eve, we celebrated our 44th anniversary and the infamous *they* said, "It will NEVER last!!!" }:o) My husband and I are now, both fully retired. Joy of Joys!!! We are loving it. We live about an hour away from our daughters and grandkids. Close enough, yet, not to close. We were living in the Metro Atlanta area and now, live about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta, in Rome, Georgia. It is a great place to live. We are not far, from Berry College and the countryside is just gorgeous. My Kids I have 3 beautiful daughters, that are 40, 37 and 29. They have given my husband and I...9 grandchildren ages 25, 24, 20, 18, 16, 13, 6, 3 and 2 years old. ALL are the joy of our lives. }:o) My Pets Right now, I have no pets. My Manx, Kitty-Pussums died 7/2005 and I miss him dearly. Hopefully, I will be getting another Manx in 2007. School Mr. Gary Lipton was by far, my favorite teacher. He thought me to think, about the political events that surround us, daily. Also, that history does repeat, itself. It was his teaching of International Relationships and Current Events that made me the "news hound" and "political junkie", that I am today. Mrs. Madeline Lewis, was by far, the best English teacher and was truly a teacher's teacher. She was still taking courses, at UCLA while teaching all of us, at Poly High. Many thought her strange, but, she was truly a devotedly, dedicated teacher. Smart and sharp as a tack, too. You honestly had to have read the books she assigned, to be able to write a book report on a 5x8 index card, that she insisted you use. Mr. Mars, the wonderful Math teacher who realized that I literally had NO business taking Algebra. Even though, I did not get a passing grade, I got credit for taking the course, on the promise that I never took another Math course, again. I kept that promise. I don't think, that most students realized he was part of the Manhattan Project, during World War II. Yep, he was that smart and gifted. Those three teachers stand out the most, in my mind and are remembered fondly, by me. College While, I wanted to go to college, the opportunity just never came about. I instead, went to North Valley Occupational School, Granada Hills, Ca. during Sept. 1972 to June 1973, and learned the field of Surgical Technology. I had a extremely rewarding career for over 24 years. I became a Certified Surgical Technologist, through The Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc. in March 1973. I also, had the great privilege of being a Clinical...Expand for more
Instructor for a Surgical Technology Program, from August 1982 to August 1984. If, it had not been for my mother's untimely illness and death, plus the fact, that my family and I had to move to Georgia, so that I could take care of her, I believe I would been a Clinical Instructor, until I retired. However, since life makes choices for us, I retired as a Certified Surgical Technologist in Georgia. I loved my career and have never regretted going back to school, to further my education. I worked at: Santa Maria Hospital & Clinic in East L.A., CA. [1973-1974] Riverside Hospital, North Hollywood, CA. (before, it became North Hollywood Medical Center)[1974-1979] Tarzana Medical Center, Tarzana, CA.[1977-1979](no, that is not a typo error, both hospitals were owned by the same corporation and I actively worked at both.) French Hospital, San Luis Obispo, CA [1980-1982] Long Beach College & Technical Institute, Long Beach, CA. (where my students did their clinical at St. Mary's Hospital, Long Beach, Ca.)[1982-1984] Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, GA. [1985-1991 & 1992-1997] Private Scrub Tech for Dr. James E. Averitt, Atlanta, GA. [1991-1992] Workplace While, I wanted to go to college, the opportunity just never came about.
