Miguel's Story

Update as of December 19, 2012 Live in Houston area, Conroe to be more exact. Work more than ever. Met with Craig Langford, ol' band member friend. Had a ball with him. I still play tennis. Any one it pick up like I recommended? Well, it's not too late. As of late, my right shoulder got bursitis, so I've learned to play left-handed.(ok, learning) Enough for now. Hope life's been good to you. It has to me... except for being a slave... to work. I asked for it. Next life I'll study to be a bum, less stress, less expenses. But can't complain. Eat all I want, play and work hard, and still have time to watch TV at 1:00 am to 2:00 am. before having to work again. Seeya. Old news I still live in Houston. Still do medicine/family practice. Retirement is just 49 years away, can't wait for the days I sit on my butt and think about the good ol' days. .. Play tennis everyday, even though I'm not retired. HOPE YA'll are too. PS. If you don't play tennis.. start. Well, hope to hear from some of you lost soles lost in the not too distant time. Be Kool, write. School School? That is a long story. Probably too long to write here, and probably no one is interested anyway. But, for those hardy nosy individuals who want to know what only I know, here goes (at least I think only I know). Kindergarten...ah. My mom was my teacher...Mrs Elma Flores at Mrs. Cantu's Kindergarten (bet you didn't know that). Elementary was cool. My second grade teacher, Mrs. Celeya, got "fat" during the year and disappeared for 9 months. Funny how I can't remember who the substitute was. Then 3rd grade was just as cool with me having smelly diarrhea and messing up in class. But I think no one why the room smelled. I remember that I was exceptionally good at TETHERBALL, remember that sport? Well, as usual, there's always someone better, and in my little world it was Loren Miller,,,...God only knows where he is now. Then of course there was 4th grade..I missed 5 months of it, being in the hospital recovering from a fractured leg...and I passed!..had to learn those pesky multiplication tables with Mrs. Mohle. But 6th grade was the utmost. Remember that? Mrs. Eckhoff...we loafed all year, and had "current" events, like what...Expand for more
the dog did last night at some neighbor's house, and the next year she became the principal, and later a Dean at Tamale Tech, she always bragged on previous geniuses she had taught and I felt dumb and envious. Junior high at Central was neat. Lots of cool friends I miss...like Grady Garcia, Gerry Lott, Carmen Saenz, Mike Rutledge, and a jillion others. The cheerleaders were great those years Life was good then..Mr. Hicks got in trouble for flirting with the girls and wearing red or yellow socks. But, Highschool was the ultimate. Band, Band, and Band...10 hours a day. And that brings up the problem also...too much band. I missed out on a lot of neat stuff....like Tennis. I absolutely love it. I also missed out on girls. Yeah, somehow I got married and had 3 kids, but it's beyond me how I did that, since I was probably the #1 antisocial kid in the school. I remember Mr. Ernesto Ramirez, Govt. and world history teacher..very unorthodox guy. Very smart too. He was a tough teach, but if you knew what the Washington Redskins were doing, you'd pass. (I knew the secret), but unfortunately, he won't return my e-mails. College at the now defunct school of Texas A & I was great. I studied and studied and somehow got into med school after 3 years...against all odds. Those college friends are hard to find, since they were originally from other places and not a little town like Brownsville. Anyway, that's where I met wife, Diana, for 30 years now.(as I update this note, it's now been 39 years of near bliss--the world ain't perfect---it's got me) and she still lets me watch on TV what I want to. A friend in college, also my cousin, David Villegas, introduced us, and I will always thank him for that. Well. I guess I've gushed enough for now. Someday, when I get the courage, I'll tell you the gory details of my school years--- like the day I saw a kid get run over by a bus... but I prefer to forget those days. Military history PHS (Public Health Service)...5 yeats with government medicine to pay back a loan. It also took care of my military duties...thank God I didn't have to go to Viet Namn. Now I live in a little hamlet called Conroe (just north of the Texas Metropolis of Houston) If you're in the area, look me up.
