Mike's Story
Hmmm...., I went off to college, on the ten year plan. Had a lot of fun, met a lot of great people, met a lot of scary people, but generally did what I wanted.
I'm definitely a geek at heart, and never met a gadget that didn't need dissection. I even thought I'd go through college and get a Phd in electrical engineering, but life got in the way.
I got married to a wickedly fun girl who liked at least half of the same music and didn't mind that I couldn't dance. We had a cute girl. She's an awsome kid.
At some point, me and the wife had a falling out.
After twelve years, we went our seperate ways.
Now, I have a boring life - work insanely. Would love to meet somebody special and start over, but it's not likely. Most of the compatible women I've met are already married. I guess a lot of other guys have the same criteria...
Now, I keep time with my little girl become tomboy-teenager. She's never met the snake, lizard, turtle, or fish that she didn't like. If I set her loose on nature, she'll bottle it all and bring it home. Other than that, I guess she's like most fifteen year olds; interested in boys, haircare, and video games.
Hmmm, I guess I should say a bit more about who I am.
Well, I seriously seriously like music - Beatles, the old pink floyd (reference Pompeii), The Greatful Dead, Phish, Liz Phair, Aimee Mann (mmmm), Vanessa Daou (yes, I perverse music. What does it for you?), Nellie McKay, Grunge, Indie, Some metal, ANY psychodelic, 60's oldies, 70's oldies, Brian Setzer, and many more, - BUT - most of all live music by no-names.
Did I say I seriously like music? I guess it helps to make up for the...Expand for more
lack of sex and drugs, and the over abundance of work.
Also, reading is good. Especially sci-fi and horrer. Anything where the characters are in worse shape than me, or doing something more interesting than me. Steven King, Eric Flint, Orson Card, Robert Heinlein. But, also books on machining, glass work, vacuum work,... - generally anything about how stuff is made.
As long as it's not about semiconductor fabrication. That's the industry I'm in. I'm part of an R&D team that develops instruments for the semi industry. The work is good, as good as any work I've known, and I've done a variety of jobs. I've repaired TV's and stereos, designed "green" technology into air conditioners, and helped develop medical instruments.
Maybe, if you have an implant, you have a piece of me inside you. Scary thought, huh? That's what the business was, scary. Everybody did their best, but I always worried about the goof that would get through. I've seen some close ones. That's why I prefer working with microchips. When they break, people may cry, but no one gets hurt.
But enough about me. Drop me off a copy of your own story. Didn't like me? I didn't like you? Well there's not much reason to worry about that now. I'd like to see how the rest of the world is getting on. I suspect most people from school still know most of their freinds. I've made friends so many times, in so many places, that most of them are gone. It would be pleasant to bring a few back into the fold.
Drop a line. Bring the world a little closer.
And remember, whoever you are, that I
wish you the best.
