Mike's Story
I can't believe I graduated almost 40 years ago. I attended Ankeny elementary & Jr High up through 1978 and transferred to Des Moines Hoover HS to continue to compete in competitive swimming (10th-12th grade). I have quite fond memories of both schools.
I swam at Iowa State University and graduated in 1987 (B.S. in PE/Health), then attended graduate School at U of Minnesota, 1989 (MEd. in Exercise Science) and completed a second masters degree in Public Health from Bemidji State University.
My career involved coaching collegiate track & field for 19 years (3 yrs - ISU, 3 yrs - U of Minnesota and Bethel University for 13 years) and Swimming & Diving at Augsburg College (Minneapolis) for 2 years. I currentl...Expand for more
y teach Exercise Science/Health for the Minnesota State College and University system (Anoka Ramsey College / Southwest Minnesota State U) and coach HS Swimming and Track.
My family lives in the Twin Cities, I have 4 children: Bobby 25, Micah 23, William 19 and Ben 18.
I started competing in masters swimming in 1999 and finished 3rd in the butterfly at the Minnesota State Championships after a 14 yr. hiatus from training.
My other passion is restoring muscle cars. I currently have a "bright blue metallic" 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T and recently purchased a "sassy grass green" 1971 Plymouth Cuda' to restore.
I enjoy the Twin Cties, but miss Iowa and would welcome moving back to Des Moines in the future
