Mike's Story
Life has been good. Spending my adult life as an "Accidental Tourist" has resulted in numerous kewl adventures. The previous career in counselling and non-profit management was highly rewarding. Even had a small woodcarving business for a while.
Things changed dramatically when I got caught in the midst of a small explosion in my house in June '02. I was a mess for while, but recovered far beyond expectations. I was even named "Canadian Burn Survivor of the Year" for 2002 & 2003 *grin*.
The last 6 years have been utterly amazing. I returned to university and became an elementary school teacher, then moved to Taiwan where I met the future missus. Chilled back in Canada for a few years as a supply teacher, by choice, while working on my fiance's immigration. I finally got around to marriage on August 8, 2007...Expand for more
during a wonderful ceremony in the Philippines to Jessica Custodio Parpan. Married life is wonderful!! Jessica is 14 years younger and and is proving to be far more than I ever expected or felt deserving of.
For some bizarre reason, we decided to move to Kuwait after the wedding. I am teaching special needs teenagers and Jess is a travel agent. We've decided to stay in Kuwait until June '09 because the school offered me a nice promotion and I will start doing some support work with burn survivors starting in September.
The future? We will return to Canada during the summer of 2009 and settle down. I have absolutely no idea what the future holds, aside from hoping to have a daughter with Jessica and maybe doing some more teaching overseas once our child is old enough to appreciate the wonderful experience.
