Mike's Story
Worked in Grand Rapids for 5 years, then went to Western Michigan University at 23 yrs old; at 27 went on the road in a classic rock band as a bass guitarist/vocalist coast-to-coast and in Spain, the Soviet Union, Spain & Canada; lived in California, Indianapolis, and now in Florida; married at 32, got busy and had four kids in 4.5 years between 35 & 40; at 41 was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer, got tattooed (for radiation!), had 16 rounds of chemo drugs (why I think my hair went gray so fast) and am happy to have no new cancer after 9 years; I like what I do and who I am (most of the time), and after the wake-up call from cancer and realizing that I'm not going to live forever,...Expand for more
I'm trying to base my priorities a little more on who would miss me if I were gone. I run a 5k once a year, like my 16 year old blue Mustang (but wish it was a '69 Chevelle SS), still play the bass guitar, love my wife and enjoy our 4 kids (9-14). The funniest things I've done lately is chase armadillos and try out a rip-stick...funny to watch, but I'm pretty good at both. The least fun thing I've done lately is be president of our homeowners association while 30% of the 185 homes were in foreclosure...being upside-down in a house is not fun; things are getting better, but it's not over yet. I've enjoyed working with Campus Crusade for Christ for 24 years.
