Mike's Story

Wow, high school. Wait, oh yes, now I remember! It was the 70's, and everything was grand. I do recall some really fond memories, and I'm sure there are a few I don't remember. Probably some I don't want to remember too. Still, it was great. Would I do it again? Oh hell no. So, I left halfway through my junior year, but always considered Cascade to be my high school. I actually graduated from another school (Hazen) but was in college when I did. So, it kinda doesn't count I graduated from another school, right? I left college with a certificate in heavy duty/diesel technology (as it was in 1977) and stars in my eyes. 45 years later I find myself back in college, but on the other side of the desk. I'm teaching now, taking those years of experience and passing it along to the next batch of glassy eyed young people. I call them my kids, but they're mostly adults. For those who would ask, I teach diesel technology. And yes, things have changed. Alot. Des Moines WA is my home, I never really left to anywhere after school. l places, between the dive joints. I have but one daughter, whom I credit with most of my adultness. I really wasn't ready, but sometimes you don't have a choice. She's awesome, I couldn't be more proud. I have a single grand-daughter also. I like being outside, camping is great times. Road trips on my motorcycle, I've been to Sturgis, San Diego, Kansas, Mount Hood, and most of Washington at least once. Canada was cool. Road trips in the car or RV are fun too. I see retirement in the future, and often find myself filling my bucket with things I want to do. I've been fortunate most of my career, I'm looking forward to the next adventure. Still a few years to go but I like my job and life seems to be good. I flip through the yearbook and see some old names, and faces that I remember. I wonder where they are, what they've been doing, and what stories they have. I'd like to hear more. I'd like to see what might have been, or what could still be. That was such a long time ago. But no, there's no way I'd do any of it again. Mike S. 1976, sort of....
