Mike's Story
Life
Since I met my wife Beth in college, my life has been pretty "by-the-book" -- we have 4 beautiful daughters (Natalie, Rachel, Michaela and Hannah), so we are carpool experts since we have to drive them to activities all the time. Our lives revolve around them, our work and our church, which is also where our kids go to school. We moved to Johnson County in 1989 and have lived in our current home since 1994. Beth has worked at Hallmark since graduation in 1988, and I worked at Payless Cashways headquarters for 18 months before moving to Hallmark in 1989. I left Hallmark at the end of 2003 and am still looking for work. Beth had been part-time at Hallmark since Natalie was born in 1991, but has gone back full-time to help out. Our...Expand for more
lives are not overly exciting, as raising 4 daughters takes up all our time, but it's a good life and very rewarding.
College
4 years at Rockhurst -- studied hard and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Two best things about Rockhurst besides the friends I stay in touch with: (1) 3 years on the campus radio station, where I had more fun then I could have imagined, and (2) I met my wife during our freshman year and never dated another woman.
Workplace
I wasted 14 years of my life at Hallmark Cards, only to lose my job in December 2003. Although I was very good at what I did, the company didn't understand or appreciate it. I can't wait to find a job where I can be more independent and work in a much smaller and less political environment.
