Mike's Story
Moved here from Hoffman Estates in 78 to re-open the Goodyear store out on Sycamore Rd. Left after a short time to pursue other opportunities and aside from a 1.5 year sabbatical to North Carolina to work with the NASCAR teams have been here ever since.
I spent nearly 20 years at Auto Meter involved up to my neck in racing programs and as a tech rep. If you saw the white trailer behind the white dually with all the Auto Meter logos on it going down the road that was me behind the wheel of the truck.
Our kids are grown up and gone, one in Ames, IA and the other stationed in Fairbanks, AL with the Air Force. Both are married and have gifted us with 7 grandkids.
I still own my first new car which is in the photo above. We have made it to several winners circles at tracks around the eastern half of the US while racing with NMCA, NSCA and a few special events as well. Last race was in 2006 in Joliet. Have sat out 07 and 08 but have plans to return in the not...Expand for more
too distant future. In fact I have the motor out of the car for a freshen up over the winter.
I'm currently the Assistant General Manager at Advance Auto Parts on 11th St. in Rockford. Am enjoying the return to my roots! Also planning to go drag racing with the True Street Series starting at Cordova in May. Retail business schedule will not allow traveling to races just yet but look for the Blue Cuda in the winners circle at Great Lakes, Cordova and/or Cedar Falls this summer!
7/19/2011 Update: Transferred to Belvidere, IL AAP store in July 2010. Promoted to General Manager in January 2011. Made it out to one True Street race in 2010 but the series shut down before I could make another one. Too busy to race this season but a new big motor is on the stand waiting for some carefully planned massaging.
Grandkids are growing, number 2 son voted Ivilliage Hottest Dad in America last month and guested on NBC and Fox and Friends shows.
Life is (still) good!
