Mily's Story
I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico where my interested in art began. I'm a Business Administration graduate from the University of Puerto Rico. Later, I moved with my family to Madrid, Spain where I studied Fine Arts (oil painting) in La Concejalia de Cultura de Pozuelo de Alarcon with the Spanish artist Maria de los Angeles del Alamo. There, I visited and studied paintings in famous Madrid museums like ¿El Prado Museum¿, ¿National Museum of Reina Sofia¿ and ¿Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum¿ as part of my Fine Art classes.
Also in Spain, I participated in several painting exhibitions in Madrid. After five years of studying and exhibiting my works of art in Madrid, I moved to United States where I continue studying Fine Arts at TCU and developing my artistic skills in new modalities such as charcoal drawing, scherenschnitte (paper cutting) and pyrography. lleries in Houston and some restaurants in Texas. Also, one of my scherenschnitte masterpiece is being exhibited in the University of Naijin, China, as part of the International Festival of Scherenschnitte.
My art style is varied. In painting and drawing, I'm stands out in cubism and expressionism styles influenced by the European masters like Picasso and Matisse. The bright and varied tropical colors have been an influence in the development of my artistic style. In pyrography, where the fire and the wood are combine to create a unique art, I express my feelings and creativity extracting the tones of the burnt wood to make beautiful drawings and landscapes. All these types of art as well as the combination of different cultural influences make my art pieces unique.
