Mindy's Story
Life
After high school and college I married. We lived in Illnois, Wisconsin and California before I returning to Georgia. After 2 children I decided I would enjoy working with law enforcement. I started in a small town and loved it.
Later I moved to a large county department. I have worked everything from the jails to a street beat before being becoming a detective. I worked crimes against children as well as homicide. I retired in 1998.
My daughter graduated college several years ago and my son joined the Marines. He is now home.
I own a little farm in middle GA. Most of the animals here are owner surrendered or thrown over our fence in the middle...Expand for more
of the night. People know I've been in animal rescue for a long time. When I was policing I would pick up a stray and take it home if it had been abandoned.
We have donkeys, horses, geese, ducks, chickens, goats, and a sheep. Of course we have dogs. Oh Lord the dogs!
I love it here and do not miss big cities. I'd rather sit and look at the pond.
I guess I have come to the realization that I cannot help a person that will not try and help themselves. I realized I would be much happier helping something that cannot help itself and will thrive with love and attention.
Recently I began writing articles about animals and their care in the local newspaper.
