Life
STOP and check out our Reunion Page with message board and photo album! Ok, back to me! It's been 19 yrs since graduation. Wow, how time flies. I got married to a great guy in 1989. His name is Chris Brooke. Chris is from O'Fallon, Illinois. We met at Purdue in 1987. Chris was just out of the Navy Seals Officer's training when we met. We were engaged shortly thereafter. This July (2004) we will celebrate our 15th anniversary . We have 2 sons, Tyler born in 1993 and Bradley born in 1996 both are on a swim team and keep me busy! We live in StoneGate, a Subdivision in Zionsville, Indiana. I'm a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree. I used to work on a Respiratory Unit at St. Vincent Hospital in Indy for 8 years. I'm currently not working as an RN. I help out at my boys schools and I'm lucky enough to be able to stay at home with my boys. I work 2 days/week for my husband who is a Senior Financial Advisor and Vice President with Merrill Lynch's Carmel, Indiana office. I have worked with him for almost 9 yrs now and we work very well together. My main interests include: Lap Swimming, competitive walking, marathon training, cycling, lifting weights, traveling, interior decorating, going to movies, entertaining, and hanging out with family and friends. I have been fortunate enough to renew old friendships with Gretchen Polley(Butler)and Kym Flock (Mennen). We have been getting together quite a bit over the past several years and are planning our 20th reunion. I'd love to hear from you and what you have been up to during the last 19 years!!
School
I was in Marching Band in High School. I was on the rifle squad. I hung around with Natalie Aynes, Missy Stormont, Paige Flowers, Jane Piggott and Melinda Fohlman.
In High School I dated Eric Bonwell, Tony Davit and Joe Parke. I married Todd Bylsma right out of high school and was divorced a year later....big mistake.
I hated speech class and was known to skip class on days that I had to do a speech. Other than that I was pretty much a straight A student. I just couldn't stand the thought of speaking in front of the class. I did not have that much self-confidence. I have overcome that fear. I didn't really like high school that much because I wasn't part of the "in" crowd. I was glad when it was over. I only wish I had the self-confidence that I have now back then.
College
I started out in Marketing/Business at Purdue. While there I met my husband Chris Brooke from O'Fallon, Illinois.
After getting married Chris got his first job in Carmel, Indiana. I transferred from Purdue to IUPUI and switched my major to Nursing.
In December 1992 I graduated from IU School of Nursing with a RN/BSN degree. I graduated with Honors and several awards.
Even though I have an IU degree my true love is Purdue University! Go Purdue!!!!!
Workplace
During High School I was the fast food queen. I worked at McDonald's and Wendy's.
While at Purdue I worked at Payless Supermarket down by Market Square.
I worked in sales at the Unfinished Furniture Store (my mother in law's store) while I was attending IUPUI.
During my last few years of Nursing School I worked at a student nurse at St. Vincent Hospital. I started out on the Oncology Unit working with Cancer patients. I ended up working on the Respiratory/Infectious Disease Unit 4 East. This is where I continued to work after graduation. It was very rewarding and I tended to get very attached to my patients and their families. I worked with a lot of AIDS patients and it was very difficult watching them pass away.
After leaving the hospital I was the Clinical Director at Indiana Community AIDS Action Network. I had a staff of 4 that worked for me. It was a difficult transition from being a staff nurse to being a manager. I got to travel around Indiana educating other nurses and caretakers about AIDS medications and regulations.
After having my youngest son we were in a financial position that allowed me to be able to stay at home with my children. I loved being able to be there for them.
I work with my husband at Merrill Lynch on the North-side of Indianapolis two days per week. I have done this now for almost 8 years. We really enjoy working together and it is nice to know all of his clients personally. I can't imagine a better balance between work and home. I have the flexibility to help out at my children's school and be here when they get home.
