Mitch's Story
Life
Graduated from Garner High School in 1993. Went to ECU and got a couple degrees in music. Now living in Austin, TX working on a doctorate. I'll update personal bio a little later...here's the pro bio:
Mitchell Butler is a native of Raleigh, NC and a graduate of East Carolina University receiving his Bachelors and Masters degree in music performance. With the reception of awards such as "Top Soloist" at the UNCW Jazz Festival, Butler has been recognized for a burgeoning career in the music field. His performances have included appearances with such musical greats as Carroll Dashiell, Aaron Graves, Benny Green, Slide Hampton, Conrad Herwig, Tom Harrell, Bob Mintzer, Melton Mustafa, Dick Oates, Grady Tate, and Billy Taylor among others. e Orchestra has helped in the further development of musical concepts as he has premiered original compositions and arranged works with this and other groups. Butler was also trombonist and leader of the jazz/fusion group Nebulous Jazztet and the Mitch Butler Trio from 2001 to 2006.
Much time has been invested as a community educator in music and jazz studies providing private lessons as well as participating in clinics/workshops throughout North Carolina and Austin, Texas. Mitchell Butler has held instructor positions at the Durham School of the Arts, East Carolina University, North Carolina Central University, Elon University, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Butler is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Music Performance at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
