Mitree's Story
Life
Don't know if this will work (since I'm not a paid member), but you may be able to reach me at trees_house via a major Internet portal beginning with "Y."
I don't think my life began until I left Rochester in 1995, moved to Vermont and shortly after started working professionally for IBM. I quickly was transferred to Waltham/Boston, MA in 1996. Finally took some higher-paying offers in 2000... just in time for the crash! GO SOX! GO PATS! Suck it, Yankee dogs!
Luckily, I qualified for some extended unemployment and was able to enjoy my 'second' childhood. My only real regret is not taking some time to travel and backpack around outside the continent. Of course, that's mixed regret because if I had gone I probably wouldn't have had all the fun I had in Boston, adopted my incredible dog or (later) met my wonderful and beautiful Karin.
Moved/transferred to Las Vegas in 2004 just in time for a summer initiation! A great road trip with a full-size van, the 'wife'' and the dog all packed in with our stuff. Currently, I am the Internet Marketing Manager for a 'leading' travel company, OneTravel.
Vegas is an interesting town, especially if you're from the Northeast. The weather is great fall through spring (October-April), and summer is brutal! Everything's walled-off and yards are small... and barren. Public transportation sucks (especially after somewhere like Boston or NYC). There's a lack of culture. Busted and crusty addicts of all sorts everywhere. Not a great place to have children and have them educated.
There are some positive things besides the weather. Sunsets and sunrises are normally spectacular since we're in a mountain valley. This may seem obvious now, but the view of the mountains and the valley at night is awe-inspiring. You can do just about anything at any time of day! ithin just a few hours (Death Valley, Red Rock, Valley of Fire, Mojave, Joshua Tree, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, etc). Even Lake Mead offers some respite from the heat. I've had a lot of fun camping, boating and ski-do'ing around a lake that doesn't smell like rotten fish and algae like Ontario! Plus, we're close to San Diego... and LA.
In the future, I think we'll be leaving Vegas in summer of 2007 in hopes of finding work in San Diego or somplace like it.
School
I really hated school, but that's normal for many. I suppose a lot of my grief was self-inflicted. Of course, there were those people who live to make you miserable too. I always pity and am very wary of someone who tells me that those were the best years of their life.
Anyway, I did make some good, life-long friends and did have many good times and made some great memories. You know who you are!
I do not plan to attend any reunions at any school I have attended. Understand, if we haven't been in touch all these years, there's probably a very good, underlying reason this is true. Most likely because we were never friends in the first place.
I'm not bitter though; I'm past all that. Just "keepin' it real."
College
Wow, this is hugely embarassing. I admit it, I haven't completed my Bachelor's degree. Too many distractions, eh? Let's see, I went to NDSU, MCC, BU, BC... am I fogetting any? Just couldn't "get 'er done!" I can't say it's hurt me much professionally. It probably would've helped. Luckily for me, I have "computer skills" which truly helped during the boom in the 90's. Someday I'll finish, I swear, and make a proper citizen of myself.
Military
I have a lot of respect for our soldiers, especially when people who NEVER served are sending them to die all the time. BUT I WOULD NEVER SERVE THOSE PEOPLE. So, the short answer is "No. Thank you."
