Mitzi's Story
Life
You were there--don't you remember? ;)
OK - Since PHS, I slackered for a while. And I began to visit often with my father and step-mother in Mobile, Alabama. That's when I met a cute guy named Mike Harris, whom I married Dec. 28, 1974. And have lived in the Mobile area ever since.
As for work (and I did on occasion ;)):
I worked as an extra-on-call for a while at Foley's in Pasadena.
I've also been a waitress. I was counter and drive-thru help at a fast-food BBQ joint, Ossie's, in Mobile for 3-4 years.
I sold Avon for 3 months in 1979. Then Hurricane Frederic came, and nobody seemed to care about perfume when they had a tree in the middle of their living room. :o
I also worked as an extra thru the openings of a couple of department stores here. And in a place that offered all kinds of services from Western Union to UPS to business cards to gift wrap, and thensome! The boss was one cheap son-of-a-gun, so I left!
I've spent most of my married life as a housewife and mother. My son, Michael Jr., was born Oct. 9, 1975. My daughter, Caitlin was born Feb. 14, 1989. Yes - 13 years apart! And that was one of the smartest things I have ever done! ;) (They were both "surprises." :))
In the early '90's I went a few years to the University of South Alabama. I loved it! I also took trainng in EMS and was a certified (Yes, we all knew I was "certifiable"! ;)) and registered EMT-Intermediate. However, 'though I aced my classes, I never ha...Expand for more
d the confidence to put someone's life into my own hands. But I loved everything I learned, especially the ER rotations.
Also in the early '90's, I worked at the Sears Catalog Teleservice, taking orders by phone. Yes, I was the voice on the end of an 800 number! (That's 800, NOT 900! LOL) I loved it - I learned so much, looking up things for my customers.
In March 2007, I went to work at Wal-Mart as a cashier, where I am now. (Well, not right now - I'm at home on my computer! :p)
My weight went up and down so many times, I knew the pounds by name! Every time I lost weight, it came back with interest! In summer 2003, I reached a peak of 300 lbs.! On Sept. 3, 2003, I had a gastric-bypass. For me, it was the right decision. By Nov. 2005, I had lost 175 lbs. - down to 125 lbs.! My weight has varied a few lbs. And one of the meds I take now adds a little weight, but it's still close.
Over the years, I have fought depression. I went for professional help after my brother's suicide in 1991. I've been on meds on and off since. The current combo seems to help a lot.
For a few years, I also had a serious problem with alcohol, leading to 2 weeks in rehab in 2006. I've had a few relapses, but I'm really doing well.
I guess that's pretty much the "Reader's Digest" version of my life since PHS.
I'm very candid about things, and if you have any questions, just ask.
Overall, I've led a very Blessed life.
I hope all of you have too!
