Molly's Story

Life My Spouse Sultan and I met on a blind date in Chicago. And yes, that IS his real name. We celebrate 9 years of marriage September 5th. He works in the computer industry for a software company. Moderate travel, works mostly from home. He's a great guy, really very thoughtful, intelligent, funny, pretty darn handsome, and not afraid to socialize or dance when we go out. (Can't stand couples who stay glued to each other at dinner parties.) We lead a happy, suburban life in the SW Chicago burbs. We lived in Chicago for 6 years before making the move towards green grass, our own garage, decent schools, decent square footage that's under $800,000. I love where we live. Great friends, great families, lots of stuff to do, still close enough to Chicago to venture out when we get a sitter (HA!!). Sultan and I had to endure some crazy obstacles to be together. His family did not approve of us being together and made life miserable for a long time. Some of you may have heard bits and pieces of the story..think the movie "Not Without My Daughter". If there's a book to be written, Sultan's got the story..We are enjoying each other as a couple and as parents together. He became a U.S. citizen about 1 1/2 years ago after 11 years of "dealing with" the U.S. Immigration system..Another long story. You'd never know he was foreign aside from his name if you chatted with him on the phone. He attended a U.S. Department of Defense school in Germany for 18 years so English was spoken primarily in...Expand for more
school for him, though he does speak German and Arabic fluently. I suppose you're sick of all this banter... My Pets I have 2 cats, Issey and Leah. Loved pets before kids but now it's just more mess and hair and smell to deal with. Sorry, animal lovers! I still won't wear fur but I do eat a little meat after 10+ years of being a vegetarian My Kids Sophie is 5 and is starting kindergarten. She LOVES to draw and do crafts as well as collect bugs and pretend she's a pegasus pony. She looks EXACTLY like I did when I was little! Isabella looks like daddy, with brown hair and hazel brown eyes and is 3. She starts pre-school soon and we are all ready. She is very sweet and charming but can be pretty crazy with her "strong personality" (read:temper tantrums). She will only wear dresses and insisits on wearing her hair in a bun for ballet class like Mommy does. (I teach 5-7 ballet classes a week as well as taking at least 3 myslef.) I love being a "girl mom" since I am pretty girly myself. Lots of opportunities to wander through the Barbie aisle at Toy 'R' Us, style their long hair with a ridiculous amount of accessories, have manicure and pedicure time (at home) with them, etc. We think our happy little family is pretty great since everyone is over naps (well, Mommy could still use them some days...) and out of diapers. Being a parent is amazing and tough and emotional and blissful all at once. (Geez, that was pretty Hallmark-laden...feel free to puke if you have no kids yet..)
