Morton's Story

Congress Heights Elementary (SE DC) to Broad Acres (Silver Spring) in '54 or '55. Eastern Jr High and on to Montgomery Blair HS (mostly band, orchestra and shows). In and out UMCP x3. Navy Hospital Corpsman in 63 (Great Lakes to Bethesda to Portsmouth, VA as Cardiopulmonary Tech). Out in 67 then Biological Lab Tech at VA Hosp DC (Pulmonary Disease Research Lab). Then vagabond Europe (hitchhiked England, France and Spain). London x3 yr (Brooke General Hospital, Norwood Technical College then University College London). Got into motorbikes (BSA, Triumph, Norton) and Formula Ford racing. Biked some more on the Continent then back to DC area in 73. Rentered UMCP, met Frank DelMonte and became United States Norton Owners number 004, 'licensed to make wisecracks and take pot-shots'. Finally graduated UMCP (Biochemistry) in 75 then into the Physiology and Biophysics Program, Georgetown U Graduate School. Loved living in G'town, actually Burlieth -- lotsa partying and crazy people. Washington Hospital Center as Respiratory Therapist till 81 then Director of The Skin Bank for Burn Injuries (my official 15 minutes of lime-light). Started the Nations Capital Norton Owners with six other guys (now, that's been real fun) -- check out the website especially the history page. NCNO lives! Married & 2 kids in the mid-80s. Oldest daughter, Rebecca, graduated Penn State 2007 (Anthropology, Archaeology, English, IT, and too many honors to retell); then MS Archaeology from Colorado State, Ft Collins. er, Samantha studies Art & Media at VCU in Richmond). Wife, Christine, and I live in small 50s style ranch house in Chevy Chase,DC, actually Hawthorne. In 89 the Skin Bank closed and after a while I was back in RT until 2000. Then Computer Learning Center, UDC, and Stratford U (MS Enterprise Business Management [whatever that means] in 2003). Started writing code for Synergy Inc when it was bought up by ICF International. Three and a half years later I broke my leg (fell from ladder at home) -- have been laid up for a year & will remain "disabled" for another 6 months or more. This explains why I have so much time on my hands that I can ramble on stream-of-consciousness-like here at Classmates. I'm in the book so give me a shout. I'm getting real good at rambling on ... 2009 update -- Back to Newsletter Editor & Webmaster for NCNO, also CoEditor for Tifereth Israel Congregation's Menorah, and contributing columnist for Kulanu. Gave up on being a serious student of Chess and am trying to learn Modern Hebrew via Internet. I was listening to Teach-yourself-Italian CDs during my ride to work before the accident, but that's all changed now... bag that! 2010 update -- Issues with my leg now wrapped up in new diagnosis = "RSD/CRPS" (Wiki that one!). 2011 update -- Laid off. 2013 update -- Doc says I have 1 in 4 chances cancer of the prostate... shi_, now what's a fella to do? But not to worry ... Most guys die of something else besides cancer of the prostate, like maybe complications of the cure. :-(
