Murray's Story
Life
I've retired from Corporate life; sold my business, and become a full-time farmer. I still see a lot of my old Thornhill pals but I've moved to "519" near Orangeville. I married Sally (nee) Tamblyn, and we have two kids. One lives in Ottawa, married with kids, and one is Married, with kids, and is my business partner in our horse farm, Silver Fox Farm.
School
I got to move around the country a lot due to my father's upward climb on the corporate ladder. I started in Winnipeg, at Georges Vanier from 1964 to 1967. I've lost touch with the 2 people with whom I remember being pretty close. Hello out there to Kevin Fonseca, and Lisa Guissefo. Next, Montreal (Dollard). Westpark was fun, until 1971, and I still email Phil Bousfield. Hi to Russ Clark, Pete(Pot)Last, and Shawn Bell wherever you are. French immersion at Cartierville in 71/72. Forgot most of the language, but remember some of the friends. Hi to Fred Pym, and Sue Zapski(my first flame). Off to Toronto, and Woodland for 72/73. Thornhill High next 73-78. I was a pretty nerdy kid in Grade 9 and 10....and I couldn't buy a date with anyone. I got in with a great bunch of people though, and I'm still in touch with John Puopolo, Frank Brown, and Sandy McKechnie. I got caught up in the TV world in grades 10-13...Hosted Friday Night Live with Rick Carroll, Howie Barish (who's a Hollywood producer now) and Frank Brown. Some great teachers too. Doc Brewer, Physics, Harvey Ferscht, Chemistry, Karen Glassow, English, who taught me to actually like Shakespeare (Bill)
College
Ah, Rye High
3 glorious years of Oakham House, Nuts N Bolts, The Library Pub, Great Canadian Beef Co. parties, and euchre in the basement cafeteria. Almost all of these icons from the late 70's and early 80's are gone. I still see, some of the old guys from the class of 81. Ron Alphonso, Alex Vendrig, Kathy Nesbitt (now Vendrig),...Expand for more

Workplace
Part time and summer jobs started at 14 in 1973 at York Printing in Thornhill. within 3 years, I was running a multi-lith, a British vertical Miehle, and a Heidelberg letterpress. I learned how to set type, and use a Line-o-type ( both now obsolete in the computer world). I was the only one who used the hand fed printer..... I worked with some nice people...Bruce Stewart (the owner) Morley Broomhead ( the foreman) Eugene Morgan, Brian Capp, Bill Darnley, Gale, May, and Kalli. I worked there until 1979
Next 2 summers at York Cemetery. Woo Hoo...cutting grass and general maintenance. I was tanned and fit by the end of summer.
2 years of part-time work at the Brewer's Retail. Yes we did take home free beer. (It's still a secret as to how we LEGALLY did this)
In 1980 I worked in the warehouse at Intralec. The day after my final exam at Ryerson, in April 1981 I joined Intralec as an inside sales Rep. I made $14,000.00 a year and I thought I was a king.
In 1984 I was promoted to office manager. In 1987 I became an outside sales rep, covering central and northern Ontario.
As the company grew, it became evident we needed an operations manager. In 1992 I became the VP of operations. My new partner, Ted Doherty, and I, bought out the first partner in 1996, and the second partner in 1999. I sold the company in 2018.
I have had the pleasure of working with many good people at Intralec....too many to name here. All of them passed on something to me, to make my work experience more colourful, and richer.
