Nadine's Story
Life
After graduating from St. James I attended Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Westchester. College was at Northern Illinois University, where I double majored in Anthropology and Photojournalism. I took a year off and worked in a factory before graduating. I went to Harvard for graduate studies in Anthropology, and spent two years doing dissertation research in central Africa. In 1984 after finishing grad school I moved to southern California with my fiancee Bob Bailey (who had been a fellow grad student), and we were married in 1985. I did a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Torrance, California, then was hired to teach Anthropology at UCLA.

1996 in Atlanta, where we lived for two years before moving to Oak Park, Illinois. In 2004 our family moved to Kenya for a year. Nathan graduated from high school in 2007, then spent a "gap year" doing volunteer work in Kenya before heading off to college at Columbia in New York. Alex is in Middle School, and enjoys playing drums and acting.
Bob and I both teach in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago (which we all knew as Circle Campus growing up). Two summers ago we went on a National Geographic cruise to the Arctic, which was way different than anything I've ever done, and extremely cool. (Polar bears are pretty awesome!) Bob spends about four months of the year in Kenya doing AIDS prevention work.
