Nancy's Story

Life Hello from Rochester, New York! I had lived most of my life near or in Cedarhurst, NY, swearing to anyone who would listen, that I would never, N-E-V-E-R, move away from Long Island. I was happy there, you might even say, content. But ... in August of 1996, there I was moving up to Rochester, with my two kids, who were then 10 1/2 and 12, and my two cats... to be with my then spouse who was also traveling with us. Today, in 2009, they(my kids) are now 24 and 25, and both doing very well. My daughter Kristen(25)graduated from SUNY Fredonia, majoring in Biology and Education. She is now attending SUNY Buffalo for her Masters, and all 4'11" of her is teaching high school Biology. My son Joe (23) attended Alfred State College for two years, afterwhich, he decided that he wanted to work for a few years to try to figure out what he really wants to do. In the meantime, he is working for General Motors and is researching careers. His true ambition is to eventually get into politics. Oy! - - [** An Update: It is now July 2011 - My kids are now 25, & Joe will be 26 in Sept, and Kristen is 27. Kristen graduated and got her Masters ... but unfortunately there were no teaching jobs anywhere. She is working for a corporation as a Corporate Trainer; still teaching, but not the way she would like to. She is still keeping her eyes and ears open so that she can apply for any teaching jobs that do become available. Joe is still working for General Motors, and has asked his girlfriend Lori. to marry him. The wedding will take place next July. Joe and Lori also just had a baby in June, Mason David Bithorn, ...Expand for more
who is the cutest little guy you have ever seen. And they are pretty serious about buying their first house.... so it's a huge year for them!!] As for me... I have had my own business since 1998, building and repairing computers. My personal schedule has changed somewhat since moving my mom up here to convalesce, so I'm looking for something else to do work-wise, that will fall nicely into my newly revamped schedule. or a nice long vacation would work too... Actually, now in 2011, I am pretty much retired from working. I had become disabled in 1998 due to a serious illness. Because it came and went, I would work when I could. But now that I am getting older, the pain and fatigue has increased, so I cannot work anymore. I still will take a side job here and there... but nothing too much. I am looking to get involved with an online business.. so at least I can earn a little money, since disability pay is very poor! But I am sure all will work out. When I moved up to Rochester many years ago, I had moved for love and a better school district. My partner and I were together for 13 years before separating, just four years ago, July 2007. It was a difficult change for me, as I was in it for the long haul .. "forever after" as they say. But I've learned that all good things don't always last forever. As for the school district.... They, came through... and my kids are doing great today, partially because of the education that they received! Educated, socialized, independent, and now living on their own. So.... new paths, ups & downs, and new adventures. Stay tuned.... Until next time... Nancy
