Nancy's Story

After high school, I went to junior college for a year at Moorpark J.C. Then, I got married to Darryl Merl Sloan. He was my first crush, and a classmate of ours in the Class of 1968. I thought I was going to be an old maid. Maybe that is why I pursued my studies in high school so much. I was looking through my report cards the other day and I did have a lot of A's. After we got married, we eventually moved to Sacramento. My dad took a job with the State Water Resources Department. He was an engineer and I wanted to be near my parents. I graduated from Cosumnes River College with Honors. My degree was in Secretarial Science. Cosumnes is a quaint J.C. right next to the Cosumnes River in Sacramento. Then I went to Sacramento State College. I graduated from Sac. State in 1973. It is now California State University, Sacramento. My degree was in Social Science, with an emphasis in Anthropology. After college, I lived in Sacramento for awhile. Darryl and I bought our first home there. A beautiful three bedroom condominium for under $20,000. Can you believe it! My how prices have changed in the housing market since then. Over the years, I lived in various places, including Brookings, OR; Portland, OR; Phoenix, AZ and Oxnard, CA. Darryl and I had one daughter. Her name is Kelly Marie. She is 28. Over the years, Darryl worked as a real estate agent/owner and was a building contractor in Oregon for a while. Darryl was extremely bright and had a genius IQ. Unfortunately, Darryl died suddenly in 1992. The doctor's say it was heart failure. His father died at 49. Darryl was 42 when he died. I currently work as a substitute teacher. My biggest surprise was that I never thought I would have as interesting a life, as I have had. I lived on the Columbia River at one time in a boat house. I lived in a custom built home that Darryl built in Brookings, OR that overlooked the Chetco River and that had a mountain stream running down the side of it. Everywhere I lived was unique in it own way. Boating was a passion for me when I was younger. We always had a boat, either a fishing boat, a speed boat, a houseboat, or a drift boat, depending on where we lived. Life, I must say, has been pretty exciting. Never a dull moment. My favorite way to blow off steam is to have a day of beauty (getting my nails done, getting my hair done, a massage, perhaps getting a make-up lesson. Currently, I live in Oxnard with my boyfriend, John. He is considerably younger than I. He thinks I dress like I probably did 30 years ago. I don't think so though. I don't dress like a teenager I dress my age. Most people think I look at least ten years younger than I really am. My daughter is not that old, only 28,...Expand for more
so it's believeable. I hope to move to Hawaii in the near future. My boyfriend has lived there before and has relatives living over on Maui. I have always wanted to travel, but so far, I have only been to Canada and Mexico. I always wanted to go to Africa and know quite a bit about it from reading which is not the same as having lived or been there. I hope to retire soon. I would like to travel a little bit, pursue my interests and hobbies, and visit with my close friends. My best friend would describe me as a PollyAnna, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as introverted. I would like to communicate with people I went to high school with, especially, my old girlfriends. I did get ahold of a couple of them on the computer. I am probably going to sign up for the gold membership so I can see who has visited my profile. Just to update, my daughter just recently got married to her long time boyfriend. She is working as an MFT intern in a private Christian Clinic and is currently living in Oceanside, CA. Kelly has both a Bachelor's Degree from UCLA and a Master's Degree from California Lutheran University. She pursued a Master's which is further than I ever went in college. Unfortunately, I don't get to see her very often. I am going to take the Amtrak one of these days to go see her. I haven't even seen the house she lives in yet. She moved there right after her honeymoon in Bora Bora. She married an engineer, a graduate of UCLA. She met him while they were both students there. They met in a Christian club on campus. I am very proud of her. She was my one and only child. Her story is quite a saga, as she was born only 2 lbs. I could not have gotten a more beautiful, smarter or sweeter daughter. My inspiration comes from God. I am a Christian and believe that God is in control of my life. I would never have made it through Darryl's death without the help of Jesus. Incidentally, if anyone out there knows the whereabouts of Linda Lee Harris, I would like to find out where she is and get in contact with her. She was my best friend in high school. Linda was a 1968 finalist in the Miss Conejo Valley Day's Pageant, and a graduate of the T.O. class of 1968. Also, I hope my old friends remember me as one of the class nerds. I was always placed in the honors classes with the other nerds. I was pretty though, not an "Ugly Betty". Bye for now. Sincerely, Nancy Bewersdorf Sloan P.S.: Someday, I hope to write a book about my life right here on Classmates.com. I still have 14430 characters remaining. I am anticipating a road trip to Paradise, CA soon to see some friends of my boyfriends. I hope to visit Yosemite also. It has been years since I have been there.
