College
Graduated from North Kitsap High in '82. Did a year ad the Association Free Lutheran Bible School in Medicine Lk, MN (near Minneapolis) and then spent five years at University of Washington. I started in Oceanography but the Math prerequisites for some of the classes were killing me, so I went from there into Music, Art, History, and finally ended up in the Drama school where I belonged, emphasis on costume design. That's where I got my BA. No formal school after that...just lots of seminars, evening classes, etc.
Workplace
Went right into working in the UW costume shop...Expand for more
in '88. Then did a year w/ Taproot Theatre Co. starting as light board op, then Stage Mangager, then Costume Designer. Overlapped that with working in the Seattle Opera Costume shop. From there worked for a friend in a retail clothing shop, then stitcher for a small underwear line, then a sailmaker. Then I moved to Japan to teach English for a year. Then to California and a series of temp and private contractor jobs. Through my 2nd husband I got into film work: wrangler, armorer, actor. Then I took up Mid East Dance and although I'm not teaching right now, I still perform as "Nabila Nawar". I'm also a member of the Warhorse Guild, which performs horse shows at the Washinton Renaissance Festival.
