Nancy's Story

Hi Friends from Colegio! For the computer challenged this website is hard to maneuver. So please bear with me if you are a wizard because I am not! What do I remember about Colegio? I remember my first day of school. November, 1966. My mom took me to the bus stop in Las Mercedes and I was wearing a green wool plaid skirt and green mohair knee socks. How do I remember that little detail? Because the first person I met on the bus was Rafael Loreto. And he told me my knee socks were funny. I moved to Caracas from San Francisco where it was cold a lot so all I had were wool clothes. Didn't take me long to adapt to sandals and sleevelss dresses! My first year at Colegio was miserable. I was so homesick and so culture-shocked. But by the end of the school year, after I had finally caught up in Geometry and learned enough Spanish to keep Jackie Tucker from making say stupid things trying to be "helpful," I got involved in school politics, got in trouble with the transportation director because of my articles in the school paper, I began to find myself and love living in Caracas. I didn't want to leave when I went home to the States for the summer. That was the summer of the Earthquake. I was glad to have missed it in some ways, but it was also the biggest marker of time for all of us so in that way it was hard not to be a direct participant. (I've been in enough tragic devestations to know it's better not to be there.) Anyway, my Junior year I met the Lord at Camp Machado, which changed my life and my direction. My Senior year I was president of my class ('69) and very very sad to leave Caracas knowing that coming home after that was only for visits. My senior year was filled with fun times and great friends and it's for those reasons I want to reconnect. I've seen a few of you since and each time I do the memories come flooding back like it was yesterday. L...Expand for more
ots of people make lifelong friends in College; mine were in high school. Today, I am married, almost 36 years. I have two children and one grandchild. I own a travel agency and am finally at the point where I love my business...I'm doing big, group trips. Last year I took 147 people to Rome and this year we're going to London, then later Spain and Portugal, and next year (2011) to Israel. I love to cruise. For relaxing and stress-free vacation and REUNIONS it's the only way to go...entertainment, food, activities are all there so friends and family can mingle, do the group things, and then do their own things as well. (That's a plug for a reunion in Sept. 2010 from San Diego we're planning.) I've devoted my life to Christ so everything I do I try my best to be ethical and honorable, though I am still mischievious and like to have a good time. I've been writing dramas and plays for my church, which I love doing. Nothing published yet...but hopefully, someday. I went to LSU and majored in Broadcast Journalism; worked in newspapers, advertising, p.r., etc. as I moved around with my husband, and then decided that travel was still in my blood so I changed careers when I was about 33 years old and became a travel agent. I don't really want to know how people remembered me...I've already been shocked by that already and it came close to ruining what I thought was a good friendship. I only care about who I am now. And the only opinion that matters is my Father's. That said, I still want to be liked and appreciated so I guess that's an ongoing struggle. That's me in a very big nutshell. As anyone who knows me can tell you, I am expressive in the written word...and often very long-winded! I hope to connect with many of you. So please try. Read this and send me a message outside of this website to nfmize at consolidated dot net. Hope that works! Nancy
