Nancy's Story
My friends may remember me as quiet, and I'm probably still quiet in many ways. I remember growing up at the Baptist Children's Home before moving to Newport News where I finished high school. After high school and a year of working for the City of Newport News, I moved to Hartford, Ct where I worked as a secretary in the trucking industry, took a break to have my son (Ken) and then worked at Travelers Insurance prior to moving to Florida where I've been ever since.
My career took a turn when I went to work for UTC Pratt & Whitney where I worked my way up from secretary to a IT specialist prior to taking a job in TN in 2000 and then retiring in 2004. So I'm semi-retired, working out of my house and spending as much time as financially possible traveling with friends. My husband, Gary, and I love to travel and we have a great group of friends that we travel with. It's fun to see a location in a picture and say "I've been there" or "I've seen that". ere are usually 6-8 friends total. Having friends along always makes the trip more enjoyable and creates memories that you relive over and over. When I'm not traveling, I enjoy reading and crocheting afghans for my friends.
Now that Ken has married a wonderful girl (Iva), we make frequent trips to Tennessee to visit the kids and their dogs (Jasmine and Willow).. Ken & Iva have presented us with two grandchildren - Ellie and Tommy - 2 years apart. Tennessee sees a lot more of us now!
So now I'm continuing to work part-time from home and still enjoy traveling. I spent a week in the Czech Republic visiting Iva's family in May 2016. They live on a farm in a rural setting so it was a bit different from my usual vacations. It was educational to see how the farm worked (I didn't milk the cows) and how the children are a definite priority. The scenery was beautify especially when the canola in full yellow bloom.
Still traveling and enjoying life. Wishing all well!
Would love to hear from everybody!
