Nancy's Story

Life My last name is now Darabpour. I live in Gaithersburg, MD, work in Washington, DC. Divorced, no children, 1 cat (although my brother made me an aunt, and Angelia's kids call me "Aunt Nancy"). I am a hopeless Harry Potter collector (collector stones, trading cards, tins, etc.). Loved the movies and can't wait for the next book! Also love to read romance and sci-fi, and sometimes do cross-stitch. Also collect unicorns, teapots, Thomas Kinkade, and am now starting to collect "Blenko" glass. I've been working on our "family tree" - if anyone under the genealogy group has information on the following families, would like to hear from you: "Cheek", "Myers", "Motsinger",or "Rodman" especially from states of Kentucky (for the Cheeks) and of Indiana. Also, I was registered with the adoption grouping, they seem to have done away with it now. My dob is 4/14/61, I was adopted in the state of Indiana, I believe my birth mother was about 13 years old. If you believe you have any info, please e-mail me. Thank you! School I went all 6 years to Polk Elementary, and am happy to say, I graduated with several that went there too. There was no "Middle School" when I was old enough, there was Junior High, at the High School! I have noticed recently the arguments in the news paper about drivers education being moved to summer. Well, when I took drivers ed, it was during the summer! By the way, at the time my teacher was the school's vice principal, Mr. Feist! He has said that he will not take credit for my "heavy foot on the accelerator"! Oh well, it was worth a shoot! I attended all four years of high school at EHS, graduating in 1979. For about that last half of senior year, I took a course through the mail for working in the tra...Expand for more
vel industry. College After taking 6 months of courses through the mail, I got to spend a month in Kissimmee, Florida finishing up to earn a certificate to work in the travel industry. While in Floriday, got to go through Hurricane David, that was scary. Of course, being inland wasn't as bad as being by the ocean, but we still had awful strong winds, and all the snakes came inland, our "house father" killed a water moccasin in the student lounge! Southeastern Academy is no longer in operation. Workplace For a very, very short while in 1980, I did telephone sales of "entertainment books". Boy is that a hard job! No body wants to talk to you, must less buy anthing over the telephone! I don't blame them, I don't either! Thankfully, I soon got on at the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville. It was through them that I got the chance to spend 5 weeks in New Orleans! Yee-ha! That was a fun 5 weeks, despite the work! Then January 1981, I moved to Alexandria, VA and went to work for the F.B.I. I was there 6-1/2 years, that was 6 years too long. I did make some friends though, and am happy about that. Next, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Believe it or not, this is a Federal agency. Kind of like the SEC only for comomdities. I mostly enjoyed my time there. I was approximately 8 years at the Treasury Department. I really liked it there, but understand that it is no longer as nice to work for as it was. I am currently at the U.S. Tax Court. No, this is NOT connected with the I.R.S. If you have a dispute with the I.R.S. and want to take it to court, you might appear in front of my boss, or one of her colleages. I am the personal assistant to a judge. Fancy name for first secretary in our office. Military N/A
