Nancy's Story
Life
Graduated from Cal State Univ. Hayward (Chemistry). Married in 1980. Retired as a Navy officer in 1994 (cryptology), after having been stationed all over the world. Separated in 1993; divorced in 1997. Began a business designing fine children's wear in 1994. In 1998, also began an e-commerce business and in 2004, added a vending machine business. Moved to Carmel in 2004, which we love (perfect weather!). Sold my vending business this past spring and am job-hunting (unfamiliar territory for me!).
I have three wonderful children and have been a single parent 16 years (yikes). Tim, born 1985, just graduated as top business grad at Cal Maritime in Vallejo, just left his first post-college job as a financial adviser at Merrill Lynch in San Jose, and moved to Boise, ID. student at Cal Poly SLO and actually now hopes to join the Navy as an intelligence officer. Jeff, born in 1992 in Honolulu, will be a senior at his siblings' alma mater, Stevenson School in Pebble Beach. A serious computer geek, he, nevertheless, totally enjoys lead roles in the stage productions at school. I just love going to all of the performances and I'm also co-chair of the Performing Arts Committee there. All of them have been in leadership training, as well, separate from their employment.
I do volunteer work at Stevenson School (where I've been a parent for nine years) and at the Salvation Army in Salinas. I am on the advisory board there, and we attend church there. I'm able to use my design and sewing skills to great benefit for them! You might see the giant Salvation Army Red Kettle I made for Salinas; it's been used in SF, too--great fun! I love it!
