Nancy's Story
Life
I married my high school sweetheart, Andy Parish. We live in Mountain Home. He works in oil/gas field sales. My son, Jeremy Koen (m. Heather) has 2 daughters, Kenzie Nicole Koen and Savannah Lee Koen, another daughter due in March, Sophia Gracie Koen, and a step-son, Caiden Richardson. They live in Branson, MO. Jeremy is a Regional Manager in the food industry after graduating from ATU in 2004. He actually lives in Forsyth, Mo. My daughter, Whitney Brooke Koen (m. Sergeant Bryan Corbett) has a little boy, Jordan William Koen Corbett. My daughter currently works for Auto Services, Inc. in claims at their corporate office (she attended ASU). My children decided to legally change their last name to my maiden name in 2001. I have three step-children--Amanda, Jared, and Chance, -- and six step-grandchildren --Charleston, Kadance, Kirsten, Annabelle, Hannah, and Sarah. Together, Andy and I have a wonderful, large family, and we are proud of all of them! My parents live in Mountain Home. My dad is retired from a North Eastern Regional Scout for professional football (his major responsibilities were to cover the Ravens, the Patriots, the Giants, the Jets, the Eagles, the Steelers, and the Redskins (and often the Chiefs and the Cowboys and some division 1 colleges). He was asked to coach at the All-American Bowl 2005; that was a super honor. Mom spends time working in her home and in her yard, and puppy sitting for me. Andy and I have two little pomeranians (who we adore just like they were our own babies!)-- Dixie Belle and Summer Sass and a cat, Kitty Galore. My sister, Jennifer, and her husband (Charles "Chuck" Jaszczak) liv...Expand for more

College
At the moment I am working with grades 10 -12 at Mountain Home High School as director of counseling. I obtained an undergraduate degree (BA)in English (with minors in foreign language and education) at ATU in 1985 and have taught English in the Russellville School District, and senior English and G/T creative writing in the De Queen School District. I received my MSE in Counseling Psychology (and 1/2 of my English masters--MA) at Henderson State University.
Workplace
I started my career as an English teacher in the Russellville district. After leaving Russellville in 1991, I took a position teaching senior English and gifted/talented senior creative writing at De Queen High School. My years in De Queen were special because of the great students I had in class --something I miss very much -- teaching British literature and writing. After I finished my masters' of science in counseling degree, I moved my family to Mountain Home. Here I work with grades 10 - 12 as the director of counselng. We have around 1,000 students, and I have four other staff members in my counseling office complex-- a second counselor, two registrars, and a secretary/receptionist. I love the staff who works with me. There is never, ever a dull day or a short one. This job requires 12+ hour days and a lot of emotional stamina; however, if you love teenagers like I do, it is very rewarding. Teenagers are much more honest and real than are adults, and they will keep one young at heart!
