Nancy's Story
Life
My life has been busy. I owned several businesses in NJ as well as worked for not-for-profit corporations and universities. After high school I attended Ursinus College and Rutgers- South Jersey but graduated from Temple University with a BS Ed. I earned an MFA at the University of Utah and then taught dance as an Associate Professor at the University of Montana for 12 years. I was active in the arts and sports. I helped found two dance companies that toured MT, WA, ID, ND, and Canada, danceMontana and Magic Movers, in Montana. I met my husband-to-be on a 50 mile bicycle ride to see a solar house. After we married we spent many vacations biking the Pacific Northwest, Canadian Rockies, and Wisconsin before moving to NYC after I completed a doctorate. I taught at Columbia University's Teachers College in NYC for 6 years, chairing the department for three of those years. After spending a year of leadership with a not-for-profit in Kansas, my husband and I decided to try some adventure in our lives and I accepted the invitation to teach again at the University of Guam ...Expand for more
where I chaired the department for 4 years and led our School of Education to accreditation by NCATE. We spent 14 years in Guam. My husband taught both at the university in sports education and anatomy in the science department as well as physics and general science at a local high school. I also taught two years at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. I retired from each of these last two schools and now reside in Hawaii.
I have two children and three grandchildren. The oldest grandchild is in graduate school and works in counseling while the youngest is in a PFC in the Marine Corps. The middle grandchild works in construction.
I have lived for the last 15 years overlooking the ocean either in Guam or Hawaii. I love the changing colors of the ocean, looking for whales, turtles, and dolphins. I find it relaxing. I spend my days swimming, walking, biking, snorkeling, scuba diving, painting, reading or working on projects involved with education for my professional association. We enjoy sharing our beautiful island with our many friends who visit from the mainland.
