Nancy's Story
Life
Unfortunately Donald crossed the Golden Shore to the Other Side this summer. He had been ill for quite a while so in the long run it was a blessing. At least he's out of his pain and suffering and he can rest in peace.
New news from me: Donald is doing quite well and is able to get along quite well. He's come a long ways since his spell in January.
On February 7, 2004 Don McCurdy and I were united in marriage and we are living in WDM, Ia. Donald is a 1955 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Many of you probably knew him. He worked at South 7th Grocery(the East End Beer Station, Harry Green's or whatever name you're familiar with) We enjoy church activities and many other activities here in the Capital City. Donald has six nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and nephews, with one of them living fairly near us. I have one great niece who is now three years old, but unfortuneately I have never had the privilege of meeting her yet. Oh well.
This year Donald was very ill at the beginning of the year and was in the hospital and a Care center for about two monhs (a little less, I think it was about forty-six days or thereabouts). I got him home the day before Spring started and he has since been dismissed by all the In-Home Health Care people as he had met all their goals for him. His cardiologist told him he couldn't drive until after the 1st of July so he's lookking forward to that. :-)
I am a Guest (Substitute) teacher in the Urbandale Community School District and have been since 1999, which I enjoy very much.. There have been some major changes in the school district where I Guest Teach. One of the changes was one school going to the Flex Calendar (all year), extended day, etc.which has proven to be interesting, Donald and I live in West Des Moines closer to the Des Moines or Valley Junction side of town.. Mom passed away in February of 2009 and is missed,. After Dad passed away in January of 1999 Mom and I moved to the city as we have family here and to get better health care for Mom which Oskaloosa just did not have. Mom lived with us untill she crossed the Golden Shore to the other side. She was a 1936 graduate of Oskaloosa, having been born and raised in Osky. . She had Alzheimer's but we worked with her 24/7 until she crossed over.. I married in 2004 to Donald McCurdy. He is a 1955 graduate of Oskaloosa high School. I have a niece who is now married and lives near Nashville, Tennessee, and a nephew who is maarried and has a daughter of his own, whom I've never met yet. as he is a Jrunior College graduate.. I believe he majored in Jewelry , Anyone who is in the our area please look us up but do give us an email first as you won't find us in the phone book. This way we...Expand for more
can give you directions to our place. We would love to see old friends from Osky from ANY of the graduating classes.
Mom was a 1936 graduate from Oskaloosa High School when it was down on the corner of B Avenue East and North 1st Street. It's hard to believe that we are in a new millenium and of all of the changes that have been made in our lifetime. Some for the better, some not so good.
As for me, even though some of you think (or still think) that I'm quiet or shy, all I ask is that you get to know me in my adult life before you pass judgment.
Usually but not always I spend part of my summers taking some classes or at least one to keep my license up to date. They hace such interesting choices of classes for one to take that it's sometimes hard to choose.
If I was not working as a Substitute teacher fulltime--I enjoy it--and taking care of Donald, I would love to go to Wales and see the Welsh Eisteddfod's there, especially since part of my ancestry is from there. For my hobbies, I love to do Genealogy and learn about my family as not much is known on either side of my family. I do know that part of Dad's family on his mother's side came from Scotland so that is another place I'd like to visit. I'd also like to visit places in the US where I have had ancestors come from, such places as Talmadge, Ohio; Bozeman, Montana, plus many other places.
Being a kid at heart one of my favorite ways to relax is to play the Nancy Drew computer games. I always did and still do like the Nancy Drew books. I find them relaxing. Of course I love to read and will read many different genres of books.
As I have said many times, if anyone is ever in my area do look me up and visit. It would be nice to see old friends and still make new friends from school (that's for those of you who didn't know me all that well in school. COME AND VISIT US!! WE'D LOVE TO SEE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Don't be strangers!!!! Come and visit us!!!!
Any of you near enough to come up and have "coffee" with us just send an email and let us know and we'll email you back.
I very seldom come to this site as I can no longer afford the subscription at the moment but you can find me on Facebook (Nancy Jane Stapp McCurdy) and Pm me that you would like to see us and ask for my email address and I'll email it to you. (of course some of you might have to explain which one of us you know if it's not both of us because a name may be familiar to one of us but not to both of us. Sorry about that. if you wish to contact us. Donald's email will be the same as mine as he hasn't learned to use the computer yet so we just have everyone send it to me, then I give him a holler to get his little ol' askmeknot into the room I'm in and I'll show him his email.
