Nancy's Story
School
I have spent the past 30 years in elementary school! I retired in June 2004. I've had a wonderful career in Sterling, VA, working with children in grades K-5. I became an elementary school librarian which is odd because I never had a school library in St. Louis, MO. When my family moved to Alexandria, VA, I was in 8th grade. I atttended Stephen Foster for the second semester of the school year. I enjoyed Mr. Travis, our history teacher. When I was a senior at Groveton, Mr. Travis had changed levels and I considered myself lucky to be in his class again. ementary school...it was an interesting time. I am learning to be retired -- so far, it is quite relaxing.
Workplace
My work and school bios overlap. June 2004, I retired from Sterling Elementary School. I spent 30 years as the library media specialist. It was quite an interesting career as the library changed over the past 3 decades. We went from the card catalogue to automation using sophisticated computer systems. Working with students, colleagues and parents was the most rewarding part of my career.
In April 2005, my husband and I started watching our newest nephews. They turned 10 months old in July and we are enjoying our time with the twins.
