Nancy's Story
Life (Updated Jan. 2017)
Since retiring from full-time teaching (Gifted and English) in 1999, I've taught ESL to adults, served many years as lead volunteer judge & researched questions for an annual televised academic tournament, and given private piano and English lessons. Currently, teaching classes to senior citizens on Using the iPhone and on Using the iPad keeps me challenged, as do playing weekly games of Bridge and Mah Jongg with girlfriends. Also, I research books for our neighborhood book club and enjoy leading those monthly discussions, as well as attending regular repertory and dinner theatre productions. Lastly, while sharing activities with other folks is personally rewarding and downright fun, I thoroughly enjoy near-daily, quiet yardwork, swimming, and simply being outdoors relishing Nature's beauty. Life is good!
My husband Herbert is retired from the area of education as well, having served as a high school principal and director of secondary education for our Lee County school district (including Ft. Myers/Cape Coral, FL). He now volunteers as an administrative consultant fo...Expand for more
r the school district and enjoys golf a few days a week. He has a son and daughter-in-law, both in education, and their two children are my grandchildren as well.
I have been fortunate to have traveled quite a bit and to have lived in other countries, thoroughly enjoying the opportunities to become involved with other cultures. Great joy and personal fulfillment come when I am working with other people, of all ages, and I am grateful for having had a good life thus far.
It is wonderful to have this "Classmates" connection--I do attribute much of my good fortune as an adult to the solid foundation and friendships formed while at Blue Island CHS (and some even earlier, at Sward--you know who you are!). We were fortunate to be there when we were and share in such a wide range of positive experiences--from classrooms and wonderful teachers to lunch table discussions, from chorus and operettas to basketball games, from bus rides to 9th period clubs and activities, from homework to long phone calls, from dances to pajama parties--and I suspect many of you treasure those four years as much as I do. 😊
